Kia anounced that it was going to build a plant southwest of Atlanta in West Point, near La Grange.  It will be located south of Carrolton in Troup County.

Isn't it amazing how the "American" companies like Ford and GM have plants in Hemosillo, Mexico, and the "foreign" companies have factories here?

-Nissan has a plant in Smyrna, Tennesee

-Toyota shares plants in Indiana and Kentucky

-Hyundai has a plant in Alabama

-BMW has a small plant in South Carolina

We have to redefine the "American" car, do we not?

(Although, I secretly wish we had some of those Australian GM, Ford and Asian models shipped up to the states)

Well, I use to hate out-sourcing (our jobs) and I still do, but I'm becoming increasingly acceptive of it. While Ford and GM can give jobs to people in other countries, Susuki, Nissan, Toyota, BMW, & Hyundai can give jobs for us (America).

This is sort of off-topic, but isn't it strange that almost everything you buy says either Vietnam, Taiwan, China, or India.. for the time being, the only item that I can think of that is made in America is products from 'Craftsman'.

Oh bother, and I thought this was going to be another gardening thread. No wonder I couldn't remember what the old Kia plants looked like. Hahahahahahaaha

I have noticed how the American companies are in other countries.  Everything in our homes is mostly imported from other countries also.

Economics and International business are funny areas. I would like to take this opportunity to state that the USA is currently running at a trade decifit of of $1,000,000,000,000 USD

This is because of the fact that the states imports so many goods and services, and exports very very little. If the world were to stop using USD, the states would be stuck in some very deep, brown, and sticky creek without a paddle.

America invaded Iraq because they switched to valuing its currency against the Euro.

Like I say, Economics and International business are funny areas.

Toyota's network in North America is very extensive.

    North American HQ:  Erlanger, Kentucky

    Factories in:  Georgetown, Kentucky

    Evansville, Indiana

    San Antonio

    Somewhere in California

    Woodstock, Ontario

And they share a factory with Subaru in northern Indiana.

Incidentally, if you happen to pass through Georgetown, Kentucky on Interestate 75, beware the cops!  All the police cars there are Camrys and many are unmarked!

Oh, and the Alabama Mercedes factory was left out too.  3.gif

Mazda shares Ford factories near Detroit, where the Mazda 6 and Ford Fusion are produced side by side.

In Kentucky (my home state) we are the second largest car-producing state in the U.S., with Toyota (Camry, Scepter [exported to Japan only] and Avalon), Ford (F-series), Chevrolet (Corvette), and Cadillac (XLR, same factory as the Corvette).

Kentucky just barely lost out to Alabama for Hyundai.  I'm sure they were after Kia as well...
