Im kinda confused here...

Hey everyone, Im new. I don't know if this was asked before, but I was wondering, I have Sim City 4 and the RH extension pack, and I just started playing it about a week ago, my biggest city has 35k people. But I have to use all of those skyscrapers that come with the game you can buy, and they lack the euro style I desire, I've heard about downloadables, but I don't won't to just have all the buildings at once, I like to be suprised with how my city is developing. Well.. here's my real question, why is it that no normal high rises or skyscrapers appearing in my main city? It has almost 40k people, and yet the only tall things are the low density apartments. So I just don't understand. I see alot of cities here with complex designs that were made or downloaded, well, one, I don't design buildings well, and 2 I don't feel the need to download towers or skyscrapers. I know it sounds silly, but I don't like doing so.

Oh, and one more question. Sorry for forgetting to put it out there. I was wondering how do you all get those awesome regions to put your cities on? My regions are all with the game, and the ones I try to make, take forever, becuase I have to edit every column of water to make land. Which takes again forever.

Population & building capacity my freind...

My best advice to you is to start thinking about expanding your city borders a little...

• Build neighboring cities, keep an eye on each city's RCI meter
• Connect the cities with big transportation options
• Feed your city with good education, health and public service

Some CJs you see have plopped skyscrapers everywhere - this technically isnt cheating this is what I like to call developing an art.  Making a beautiful city with plopped skyscrapers is a work of incredible imagination my freind.

 

Well, the reigons - the one I am working on is simply just a big flat square reigon, I create the landscapes as I go along and I have downloaded growable skyscrapers, do you know that at least 80% of the skyscrapers on the stex are actually growable ones?

Thanks to both of you guys, I think I might actually be able to run the city of my dreams, or at least a city of.. ok yeah whatever. Oh, and here is my developing Region to get an idea of what I have been trying to accomplish.

Also, Is it possible to rename a Region? I just noticed that it says New Region.

yes its possible to rename a reagion just go to your simcity folder in your documents .

  then go to reagions and open the reaion file that you want to change the name of .

 and find the file named reagion (it looks like a note pad ) open it and you will see (NAME = new reagion) just take out New reagion and typ in what ever name you want then save . once you restart the game open up your reagions and find your renamed reagion.

Well a typical newb mistake is to make to much Industry. Commercialism ftw. Youll get Commercial Office buildings thatll spike your RCI real high. Commercial Office Buildings like traffic, 1000cars+ btw, so a neighbor to trade traffic with is always helpful.

best bet at the start...try a map from the map exchange and render it yourself...

there are other programs to help you make custom maps yourself, terrian generator...land scape design to name a couple

I my self stick to the exchange and render...some pretty nice maps there already

done.
