Welcome to my new Klondike Delta region! This will be my next city journal, and (I hope) it will continue for some time to come. At this time, there are still many BATs I would like to re-download and incorporate into this new journal, but since the STEX is very slow right now, I will have to wait till sometime this week. For everyone who would like to know, the STEX will be back up and running 300% faster than normal (so I have been told) very soon.
                                                          -All Pictures Hosted offsite-

This journal will be as Dial up friendly as possible, with the majority of pictures 600x450. I will strive for a uniform, professional looking journal, and comments/ constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated. I will update this journal as frequently as I can, which is usually once every one or two days. I am not very creative, so please do not expect a story.

I do use modds, and I do cheat. I am a sandbox style player, which means that I like to create what I see fit and do not like being hampered by financial constraints.

With that all said and out of the way, I present to you, Klondike Delta!

Here is a photo of the region I will be using. It is a wonderful map made by Flamesrock, who is possibly the best map maker on the MEX. Currently, the only developed parts of the region are 2 downtown areas.
Now let's take a look at my region's main downtown, which is not finished yet.

This is the zoning layout of my downtown area.

After years of development, here is what downtown looks like today. Remember that it is not finished and suggestions are welcome.

There should be another update later today or tomorrow.
Thanks for reading! 1.gif

1st comment: Very nice beginning as usual Tim, not to mention a beautiful region pic. It's a little griddy for my taste, but that's okay for a downtown. Great start.

    Nice Delta

    Although i have to agree with MI-Editor, The brown buildings seem dirty compared to the rest. and no parks. 30.gif

    but still, very large. and the monorail network is interesting

    Thanks for the comment! There will be parks, I am already working on a very large park just to the left of that developed picture, and more smaller plazas will be added in within the next few days.

    EDIT: Also, just to make sure this is working, can everyone see the text at the very top of this page? I used a brush style font (can't remember exact name) but since it is not in Simtrops origional fonts, I want to make sure it displays correctly. If the font looks plain, please tell me! 19.gif

    downtown looks very nice! and i am sorry to say there is plain font at the beginning14.gif...but then again i might not have that font installed on my computer...if its a really new font or something not common then people might not have that font installed on their computer (like in Microsoft Word, etc.) and then they cant see your font.

    great work cant wait for more development!1.gif

    Nice start MayorTim!

    Downtown looks good, it's gridded, but again most downtowns are. I would like to see some beautiful parks being built though and you should also consider building a very detailed main shopping street because of your sandbox play 19.gif

    Ps. Looks like you're going to have a great mass transit system 44.gif

    Thanks for all the comments! I cut out the top text and made it into a picture, so hopefully now the font will display correctly. Everything should be the same color now. If there are any more problems with either colors or graphics in this city journal, please tell me.

    I am using the Katalla AK map on the MEX by Flamesrock. I did resize the region to make it much larger, since the downloadable version is only 1025x1025, but that is the only modification that has been done.

    Sorry I didn't get to play much today, so no update. I did go on another downloading spree though, and my plugins folder is now 100mb larger. I think I have an adequate collection of BATs and lots now, and I think I have some that many of you won't recognize.

    ok I found the map. Now I know why I missed it. The map on MEX is not flat like yours. How did you change it? Thanks.

    Thanks for the comments!

    Christo26: I did not edit the region at all except for making it larger.

    Slimdude: First of all, welcome to Simtropolis! Also, it will not be a concrete jungle, though right now it looks like one now because all I have is downtown.

    49.gif Update time!

    Sorry for not having an update in 3 days, I have been busy but I did get some time to play. I did some more work on downtown, and expanded a bit. Here are some pictures.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/7888/p11mm.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is a zoomed out photo of downtown as it looks today. Sorry the waterfront looks crappy, but you can't see the seawalls from this elevation.

    As you can see in the picture above, I have completed 2 of the 3 downtown parks that I had wanted to make.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/7857/p21qy.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the first park, centered around Oppie's new church. It is on the waterfront, and I am thinking about extending the seawalls to cover this area as well.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/704/p32wg.jpg align=baseline>

    The second park, built just outside of downtown, features several walking trails and 2 ponds.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/3323/p48tw.jpg align=baseline>

    This last picture is a more zoomed in view of downtown, so you can see more of the detail. There are still a few areas that I want to change, and probably a few new BATs to add, but this is more or less what downtown will look like.

    Now here are some views around town.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/2955/p5i3sy.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the area around the base of the International Trade Center. Several hotels and plazas are located here, catering to the thousands of business people who commute here daily.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/1724/p6i5gp.jpg align=baseline>

    Some midrise appartments located on the outskirts of downtown.

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/1439/p9i4gp.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttp://img96.exs.cx/img96/427/p10i4ly.jpg align=baseline>

    Finally, here is a night pic.

    Thats all for tonight! Comments welcome and appreciated!

    Amazing skycrappers you got there! This is too much gridy for me, but I doubt I could develop such a high commercial neighborhood...

    Maybe that's a bit off topic, but I always wonder what cities are named after. So where does Klondike comes from??? It sounds a bit dutch to me...

    Thanks for the comment! It is griddy because it is a downtown. I have a personal hatred for grids, but it is realistic to have almost perfect grids in a downtown. As I get further out, especially when I start my suburbs, I will have almost no grids.

    For me, the name Klondike always reminds me of Klondike Bars, a type of mint candy that I used to love. 18.gif I do know that there is a real place called Klondike, but I do not know where it is.

    BTW: What exactly is your avatar? 47.gif

    Yes you are right, grids are realistic for those areas... I can't wait for what comes next!

    Klondike sounds dutch to me (I'm not dutch so it's just a feeling) just because of the K's... I don't know if klon means anything, but I think dike means fat or big (dutch guys am I right?)...
    So it's a mint candy!37.gif

    And my avatar is (probably) some kind of monkey. Maybe it's an angel monkey, because it has something like a circle above his head... If you really want to know, I took it from a CD cover.

    I belive Klondike is an area in the North West of North America.Like its a big region in North Canada or possible in Alsaka...

    I think it has alot to do with English and French explorers of the mid 1800's..

    Did you that Nome Alaska got its name by a mistake...A map maker sent a map back to England and it said Name but it got smuged and said Nome.Then it said that on all maps made from that day forward....

    Dike means dam in Dutch or so I belive...

    Great looking Downtown!!!44.gif

    Klondike is in north-western Canada, near the border with Alaska... The place became famous during the Goldrush in the last years of the 19th century. People believed they could found tons of gold in the ground and in the rivers...

    Your city looks nice so far! I guess you made this really fast... or not?
