Traffic-jam Digital Signs like this possible ?

After a amound of XXX cars going over the highway, the board goes ON, if not, it stays OFF or it displays security messages.

...but too bad it won't work. 28.gif That wouldn't work in game, although it could just turn on on during the game's rush hours (game time 6 AM-10 AM and again at 3 PM-8 PM). The game wouldn't know how much traffic would be passing though it at one time but not how much ahead of it.

It can't happen based on traffic, but you can do it for rush hour times. Sorry!

Thats a great idea but i dont think you can make a sign that goes on when theres is a certain amount of cars on the highway.

Wouldn't it work if you made timed props...?  Think about it like seasonal trees... at certain times of the year, the trees switch from green, to orange, to no leaves, to buds...

If you had the blank, black sign during the non-peak times (say, 7 pm until 6 am and 9 am until 4 pm) and the sign with whatever alert you wanted (for instance, travel times to a certain landmark in the city at the rush hour times) then it might work.

I know Peg has used timed props for his lift bridges, and SG uses timed props for the clock tower on one of his railroad stations (the prop changes every hour, on the hour, to display what the game time is).

i think you MUST do it with time props.
as far as i know the indicated traffic on every street, road, highway etc. changes with every tile. so you have an amount of x cars on one tile and on the next tile you have an amount y...

but with timeprops for the rushhours it would be at least some more realistic and easier to do...

This is a cool idea, but could you even read what's on there? the thing might have to be a bit larger than normal. either way, cool idea that has been overlooked so far.

Yeah, it would be extremely difficult to read those signs from something like #3 view which is what most people use.

That is certainly an awesome idea!  I guess timed props will do, or maybe animated ones..

I think that you dont have to make it 'readable'. just the yellow letters (just some yellow lines on the display) does enough to let you feel it is real. Of course it is a damn hard job to make this. But well its allways good to come with nice ideas 1.gif.
