An idea to fix a tiny but annoying problem in the forums

I have noticed that when you send a Private Message at Simtrop, it returns an empty PM field. You really have no way of knowing if your message was actually sent to that person.

This is no big deal and we have lived with it for many years now at Simtrop, but is it possible to recode the forums a little bit so that it says something like Message sent to [user] Sort of similar to the way yahoo mail does it and most other email services.

This will save a lot of people time and keep us from having to rewrite the message entirely sometimes if it turns out we sent it to the wrong person or to no one at all. I mean how many times did people get the following:

Subject field: I am not sure if you got this PM?
Subject field: Sorry if you got this PM twice.

Then you got the same pm 5 times. 18.gif

Lets find a way to fix this. A message sent confirmation display would fix the problem perfectly. If this is not possible or you dont want to waste your time on this, close this thread. I dont mind. 2.gif

I don't know if this is possible or not.  What I do is send myself a copy of all PMs that I send.  That way, I can see if it goes through, and a I have a copy of it for reference.

Of course, I have to delete most of them out later, after the issue is resolved.  But keeping the last of a series can be useful reference.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

To the context of the thread...I've also noticed that before but have always just hoped that the messages were received.  I figure if I don't get a response then I can resend the message, however (as Ski suggests) I think I'll start sending myself a copy from now on.

I do that too, but despite the fact that the population of this forum increases, the time it takes to send a Private message might be unaffected. The population counter on the front page only gives you a count of how many members signed up since the launch of this forum.

When you check the 'Active Members in the Last...' part of the column, it gives you a rough idea of how busy it is. Further down, you will see the members currently online. The bigger that list, the busy it gets and the longer it might take to send a private message.

I always trust that my PM gets sent successfully to another member. But it's not a bad idea. As Compromise said, IdealBB is always open for suggestions, so you can ask them about it. 10.gif

I do the same thing as Ski, sending myslf the PM before actually sending it. I may send it to myself and slightly improve it as much as 10 times before sending it to the person it was supposed to go to. I keep them all in a special folder called

I havn't really seen that problem... I have written all my PMs correctly and received them correctly, back when I attempted the United States of Aldora I had a fair good amount of PMs coming in & out, none of them were sent incorrectly/never delivered.

I dunno, Im different to everyone on this subject, I probably have made some mistakes and not seem them...

Heck, why not take the next step and just set up an email service here?
