Ok, I know this is horrible...but I really want to see what it would be like to have a really bumy slum city...but what I want to know is, will it affect my other cities? All of my cities are predominately R$$$. Will that bring down the region or should I just continue with my experiment?

actually it will help out your other cities29.gif....as the game unmodded is structured in a pyramid idea for the sims R$ on the bottom...R$$$ on the top

basic ratio is about 4:2:1  (R$:R$$:R$$$) not an actually figure...but sort works out close to that.
so having a hugh slum city will actually help the region grow better and make more availiable R$$$ for your rich cities..1.gif  all chiefs no braves...makes for a bad tribe...9.gif

ps...make sure you have enough low CS and dirty or manufactuing jobs to cover the slum cities of you will get a lot of no job problems and a good set of for MT....or you will run into comute problems

Agreed, slum cities are actually good in some aspects, especially if you plan to build neighboring cities with high class homes and businesses.

I was just browsing when I came upon this thread and found it very interesting. I am one of those players that have played forever, but still don't get it. And yes, I have read all the tutoring posts, but they too don't help.

When it comes to slums, I can build some real nice ones, profitable ones too. In fact, that is all I seem to be able to build. As soon as I educate my slummies, they build these big fancy houses and stuff, only to abondon them, leaving my city even slummier than before, but with a dropping population and a now dropping budget.

It sounds from what I need to do here is to leave my first city a slum, maybe even my first few as slums, and then I should have better success with my higher educated cities. Is this correct?

I don't think that the whole city should be kept as one big slum. Certain pockets consisting of rich sims should be included in every city. 19.gif

According to me, each and every large city should have a mixture of R

i agree with kool, also don't zone too much high density. have a mix of low, medium and high. too much high density, and u'll have no job zots all over the place. also, make sure theres low pollution and traffic near the residentual areas.

lets say u have 50000 people, u should have:

30000 R$
15000 R$$
5000 R$$$

your wrong, you should have 7,142 R-$$$, 14,286 R-$$, and 28,571 R-$. your calculations were a bit off.11.gif

I generally let all the different wealths get mixed togther in my cities which I find effective enougth and it can be more realistic.

By the look of it that was just a random attempt to catch people out which is beyond the point and not helpful so don't do that please.

well, in my old CJ , I had actually 2 slum cities next to each other, which where both about 98% R§ (I'm using the § cause this looks more like the simoleon sign 2.gif). the other neighboring towns were twice industrial-only and once a tile with 2 very small towns of about 1000 inh. each... (the other 3 connections were abyss)
i can't say for sure if the neighboring towns were influenced by the slums, at least it didn't seemed to do so...
