help with a map, region generation error 769x1025 should be 961x961

i read the above two topics reagrding the placements of the configs, i downloaded the washington map off the stex. i really want to play it but it wont do anything all i get is the error.

 

help please?

the latest washington map that was relesed on the stex, the Whidby Island Washington one by aix

it always comes up with thawt error, i tried resizing the greyscale to 961x961, on paint. however this does nothing and i get no message at all when i try to use my resized one.

I checked the config.bmp file and the region file, and they match.

Are you sure the config.bmp is in the correct folder? If you are calling your region Whidby Island, you will want to follow these steps:

1. Create a new folder with named Whidby Island in your ...My Documents/Sim City 4/Regions directory.
2. Download the config.bmp file and place it in the new folder
3. Download the WHIDBY.jpg file and remember where you downloaded it to.
4. Run your SimCity 4 game
5. Open the new region
6. On your keyboard, press and hold down 'ctrl' + 'alt' + 'shift' + 'r'--this should bring up a dialogue box
7. Browse to the folder that you downloaded WHIDBY.jpg to, find WHIDBY.jpg, and open this file.
8. This should start the rendering, and a screen should appear saying Creating New City. BE PATIENT. This will probably take between 15 and 45 minutes to render.

I'm having a similar issue

I follow the steps you give, but the regions I'm trying to apply arn't with in the 1025x1025 range...

same with the config.bmp has to be 16x16 ...or so I think

I tried resizing both the config and .jpg files to the specified size and no luck

Some regions worked because the image size was already 1025x1025

Please specify which map it is, so one of us can check to see if there is an error on it before we give any advice on how to correct it

A few common errors though

Is the relevant config in the region folder, and is it named config.bmp ?
Is there only ONE config in the folder ?

Assuming you have followed Mallows tutorial TO THE LETTER - there can only be one problem - an error on the map or its config

it's saying that the region is 2561 x 1665 and should be 1025 x 1025

Well that means the correct config.bmp isn't in the correct folder. Can you take a screenshot of your folder to show us?

this is within the region folder for the game

it worked for Austin and Bern

but not

Prague

Sydney

Auckland

Rotterdam

Bergen

Hmm... that looks correct. Can you try one more thing?

Right click on the config.bmp file, go to "Properties", and copy and paste the link here. I want to make sure it's not in a folder within a folder or anything.

That's the problem.

Here's is the solution to that problem, directly from the thread I linked earlier:

2 - Make sure the config.bmp file is in the correct folder. There are two folders for regions:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Region Name\

C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Regions\Region Name\

It needs to be in the FIRST one (in My Documents). Sim City 4 does not use the second folder for loading region maps.

In other words, you can't make your region folders in your Program Files region section, you have to make it in your My Documents region section.
