I know that the default Sim City music files are all MP3. So if I have music files that are MP3 on my machine would I in theory be able to replace the default music with custom music? Has anyone tried this and if so did it work?

In the manual it tells you to put custom music in C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Radio/Mayor. I have do this and listen to my favourite music in SC4. There are some drawbacks though,I believe my custom music is the cause of my game crashing so often, so this gives me the need to save the game every 10 minutes if I have been playing the city for long enough.

tried it..it's messy and cumbersome., soon as you move the files to the game...it break any links to your media player and the song won't appear there anymore (have to re-establish the links)

much easier just to shut the sound off in the game and play your music in the background on a media player

well thats what i do anyways

In a slightly related issue, My game crashes when I go to turn on the games default music. I have not installed any custom music. I don't know if some mod I have installed is causing a conflict. Any ideas???

Actually, I have had good experience with it...I've copied, not moved, over 200 songs to my SC4 music folders, it works great! I usually leave my game running for up to 72 hours, and even more at a time, never have any problems...Make sure you do go into the Audio options and check the Custom Music option...It really works great...keeps from using media player memory, and you can focus all your memory on SC4.

The other problem with Media Player, or using an iPod for that matter is that it doesn't not blend with the sound effects like the custom music does. It sound's great!

Check to see if your sound driver is current. I had a problem with the sound driver and this game that caused a BSOD.

If you think its a mod, then you have to back them all out to a separate directory and put them back one by one, testing each time, until the problem occurs again, at which point you ahve found your problem.

Well, you can actually just create a shortcut to the folder where your music is... that's how I did it before I got iTunes. Now I'm all paranoid and have to use iTunes as soon as i listento music or my play count won't rise... Anyway it's much easier to create a shortcut than to move all the files.
