SCULPTING COLUMBIA RIVER

/idealbb/files/Columbia

Hello everybody. This is my first CJ, and hopefully you will find it interesting. This is not meant to be the history of a city, with its particular sims lifes, and such things. Not much imagination on this approaching to CJ. This one is focused in the development and construcion of an imaginary city, treating the game as an Sculpting Cities game.

I am using almost all and any mod existing in this website17.gif. Not much time. Its enought to worry about sculpting the city. I am using many and many different lots existing on the STEX, and in some other sites around the world. Specially mention to the BRF_TunnelAndSlopeMod-b.dat 3.gif, PEG lots 6.gif, Diagonal Walls 16.gif , NAM 29.gif, and more. If you see something unknown for you that particulary calls yor attention, just ask me for more info on it (a pic would always help44.gif).

First thing at all was to choose the terrain. I decided to use SkippydamColumbiaRiver.zip (thanks to its creator, skippydam73).The map is avalaible in the STEX), as the base Region, because of its smooth landscape. Not too flat, not too hilly. A big river. Some mountains. Many oportinities to sculpt the city.
I started with a central city terrain, wiht a river in the middle, wich is suposed to be the Center of the whole Region.

STEP 1. TERRAFORMIG SHORE LINE

/idealbb/files/S001

Some small cliffs and beaches, using the ingame terraformig tools. Nothing else ha been touched.

STEP 2. RAILROAD SYSTEM

The first to develop was the communication network. First step on this was the railroad system.
2.1 General view
/idealbb/files/S002
2.2 A nice(i think) terrrain conforming railcrossing.
/idealbb/files/S003
2.3 Main City Central Station. Note the railroad crosses the river via a double tunnel.
/idealbb/files/S004

STEP 3. HIGHWAY SYSTEM

Next Step was adding the highway system.
3.1 Sometimes it crosses under the railroad system,
/idealbb/files/S006
3.2 And diagonally...
/idealbb/files/S008
3.3 The highway goes into an avennue before undercrossing the river.
/idealbb/files/S009
3.4 An Overall view. Railroad + Highway system.
/idealbb/files/S011
3.5 And a zoom view on the Tunnels.
/idealbb/files/S012
That will be the first chapter. If you like this type of CJ, and you consider that to continue with it could be a good idea, please let me know. All posts are wellcome. If the thing goes on, this would be the city, on its first stat of urban development.
/idealbb/files/058

Please, let me know if you want this CJ to continue. Thanks for your time folks

I like it! The transportation system flows very well with the land around it. Can't wait to see more updates.

If you build cities with the same attention to detail as your transportation system then this journal is well worth continuing

For double tunnels you just need to check that the land for entrances is perfectly levelled to be the same height for both tunnels on both ends. If there is even a slight difference it wont work.

BTW, that's a nice transportation network you have, jeronij!

This is a pretty cool CJ.
    Two Questions tho:

    1. What major problems did you run into while designing your landscape and how the city was suppose to be laid out?

    2. How did you work with the Cemente Walls so well?! (I can't figure out how to use them like i see in pics)

    Hey man,

This is awesome! Greatest CJ I have seen since the last one of jeorg's but that is another story. I love the use of the lots, not to many really goofy ones. Also I was wondering if you could possibly tell me which map you used? Or did you and Terraform? If you did 25.gif19.gif VERY NICE!

    Waiting to hear from ya,

Nice CJ! I like the transportation network (everybody seems to be liking it), but I also like the fact that you are using the Columbia River... only because I live in Portland 1.gif.
