***EDIT*** THIS CJ HAS BEEN STOPED. THERE IS SOME PICS SO ENJOY WHAT IS HERE. IF YOU'D LIKE MORE VISIT Avondale ***EDIT***

This is just gonna be a simple photo city journal. no bells and whistles.

I haven't built a region before so this is what I will try to attempt to do.

Okay so here we go

This is the city of Hampton(oh btw I haven't named anything so far so i'll just refer to them by generic terms)

Aerials

Downtown

Stadium

Well known Shopping center

Industry + future midtown area

High School + Sounth Shore Drive, where the rich live and play(okay well I named that one)

I found this one funny

I've only played this city/region for 1 day so alot still has to be done.

so what do you think?

This is very good work, and I like the way you've built a realistic downtown. A couple of pointers:

1) I don't know about slope mods because I don't use them, but one of those could help with the slight unevenness of the land. Also, try to level the land where you plan to put roads, buildings, etc. In changing elevation, retaining walls on the STEX are quite useful and look nice.

2) I don't know about you, but naming things makes it easier for me to plan cities. Names help you plan the region (as they can indicate the relative importance of a city or its position in the region), and are invaluable in helping your CJ readers connect to your work. I believe there is a naming thread here on ST, if you want some ideas.

You may already know these things, in which case do whatever feels good to you, but they would help make good work even better. Keep it up.

Great start. I like that you kept the slopes. Too many flat cities now-a-days. A city on a peninsula is a good idea.

I am happy. Are you?

Great start - looks well balanced.

A few suggestions though:

1/ Going by the quality of your images, you're using an image program other than paint (I remember that when it was the only thing I had that the quality was shocking). By sharpening the image slightly and reducing the image quality, you can substantially reduce the filesize and therefore get more bang for buck. Alternatively, upload full-size images to ImageShack and use the thumbnail feature.

Trust me when I say that ImageShack is FAR more reliable than photobucket. I haven't seen it fail on me once - and I've been using it for about a year.

    Thanks for the compliments Cjah, jacqulina, Sisu, Equilibria, mtbrocket, and cammo2003.

    @Equilibria:
    1) I don't know about slope mods either, I do plan on leveling out the land slightly where the buildings are. Its kinda hard to see in the previous pics but I have used retaining walls in a couple of places, Here are some pics of retaining walls

    @Equilibria:
    2)Yeah I haven't really named anything due to lazyness on my part but I do plan on naming stuff once I get the city going a little more.

    Thanks for the tips

    @cammo2003:
    Yeah I used photoshop to resize the pics and saved them at 11/12 quality. The reason why they were at different sizes and blurred was because of my ignorance. There's a setting in photobucket that is set to default 256kb max size, and the pics were around 400-500kb so photobucket resized them. it's not a problem anymore and the pics were fixed.

    I used to use ImageShack alot but they lost alot of my pics before so then I switched to photobucket. I've been using photobucket for like a half year and I haven't experienced any problems. Its a bit slow uploading and the max file size is 512kb but it's been very reliable so far. I still use ImageShack too but only for larger files, Too my knowledge I don't think they can display the pic on a forum or whatever and that is a minus but its a good host too.

    Here's my next task in the city of hampton, a park. so stay tuned

    Okay here is the new Tamminey Park. Plenty of parking featuring tennis courts, basketball courts, a plaza, playgrounds, a large and small pond with surrounding green spaces. also included is a pedestrian overpass with access to a bus stop and parking.

    and here is a new pic of the downtown area. alot of the tallish buildings on the lower left side were demolished because they were a little too tall. so here is a little more pleasing dt area.

    Thats such a simple and yet realistic park.I like the rest of the city aswell and of course those avenues still rule.

    I didn't know an El highway could be made into a tunnel...

    thanks for the compliments guys.

    I'm at a point where I don't think I can continue with this city. Let me expand on this.

    I have a 3.0 ghz ht processor, 512mb ram computer with no graphics card and the game crashes within 15-20mins of play. I disable all the system processes except the needed ones, no virus scanners, nothing. I have the game at 800x600, all low settings except texture and thats at medium. all the other settings are off except the color cursor I believe. and it still dies on me(the game not the computer).

    1. is it better for me to have the hardware or software handle the graphics(there's an option in options window)? I think my computer has a graphics chip, its a 6-8 month old dell dimension 3000 i do believe.

    2. is it the size of the city that is crashing the game? it a medium sized city and as you can see its not a very big city.

    3. what should i do? after like 15-20 mins of play it'll crash. it'll usually crash when I zoom out.

    HELP!!! lol. I hope I don't have to go back to making suburban style cities.

    ****EDIT****
    well it's playable with it crashing maybe like once in a 45-60min frame but its with the texture and detail at low. wow it's incredibly fugly. I can wing it I guess

    I too like that park.  I think simple is the way to go.  some of the more in depth CJs have quite a bit of reading to do but sometimes I just wanna see the city!

    If you are having trouble with this city then start another one and show us that.  keep up the posting.

    Unfortunatly I can't continue this CJ due to the limitations of my computer. The amount of trees and the size of the city kept on crashing my computer.

    However I just started a new CJ, Avondale , so check it out.

    sorry for the termination of this CJ.
