Game Freezes While Saving on new laptop [Solved]

Preface:

I am very computer illiterate but have tried everything I can think of/find in the forum before asking for help. Please be patient with me. *:)

Situation:

I play SC4 Rush Hour on GOG, and have NAM and a bunch of other mods downloaded/installed on it. I’ve been using a very basic old work laptop to play on (told you I wasn’t a computer guy – I’m amazed it’s worked so far).

I was recently gifted a new (to me) gaming laptop and am trying to get set up to play SC4 on it (specs for the laptop are attached). I tried just installing it and moving my plugins over and that didn’t work out of course. So since this is (to me) a fancy gaming laptop, I decided to start from scratch and try to install it the right way with all of the recommended performance and graphics according to the SimCity 4 Ultimate Guide.

I started with what I believe to be a blank slate and followed the ultimate guide and then the Performance and Graphics list - critical mods to install exactly according to the instructions. I finished installing the critical performance and graphics mods, and finally got the game “working,” meaning the game loaded and opened my region and then a city (I used the DgVoodoo 2 DirectX Wrapper to launch it).

The problem is that when I try to save the city to exit, the computer freezes with the hourglass/loading mouse pointer and I have to force close the program in order to make it go away (and it doesn’t save).

Question:

I have no idea what to do next. I’ve scoured the threads and the amount of information is overwhelming - I don’t understand most of it. None of the “freezing while trying to save” threads seem to match up with my situation from what I could tell? Please help! At this point I’m willing to pay someone to remote in and just fix it *;)

Are you using OneDrive for your Documents folder? This messes with SC4 saving as it takes a split second to sync updates and this messes with the process. Best to keep your SimCity 4 saves elsewhere on a local disk (one installed in your computer).

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thank you - I got this one resolved. It may have been the OneDrive thing.
