Lots Generating Massive Profits

Hey there fellow mayors,

I recently noticed my income jumped about $20,000 when this lot was built in a city. Now I love well-earned simoleons as much as the next mayor, but instant riches like this I feel undermine the integrity of the game. Anyone have any quick fixes for lots that present this kind of issue? Of course removing them from plugins is an option but I'd really prefer to keep buildings as nice as this.

I can look into this, but not tonight.

Btw, it'll be better to post a linky to the file and let peeps download it properly rather than attaching it to your post. Later, we can make an override for you that doesn't do the massive income.

I suspect it's because these buildings have a very high wealth (land value) property.  The Golden Dragon Industrial Center has a wealth property of 1,509,461.  That will translate into some large tax revenues, depending on your tax rate.  I think Bixel made these lots before a lot of the properties were standardized in PIM-X.  I note he says that it's a "stage 8" industrial lot, but in reality it's a Stage 3 lot and if it grows it will provide a heck of a lot of tax revenue.

It might make sense for the entire lot to be re-run through PIM in order to assign new properties to everything so that it all balances out.  Perhaps a CAM and a non-CAM version should be made as well.

Change the Building value property in the building exemplar (property id 0xE91A0B5F).

  1. For GDIC, the author set it to §1,509,461.
  2. For HK Fab 2 Hi-Tech, the author set it to §1,950,201.
  3. For HK Fab 2 Manufacturing, the author set it to §391,477.

Based on those numbers, SC4 appears to be reducing the value in its calculations if you are only seeing §20,000 in additional income.

I'd hope that removing the files from plugins then reinstalling them wouldn't cause any issues.

It'll be fine. No need to bulldoze any which are already grown. They will self adjust after running time in the city tiles where they exist. *:)

The file: Cori Adjusted Building Values for Bixel's GDIC and HK Fab 2 Industrial.zip

Use the three included .desc files to overwrite those of the same name in your plugins. I've edited the Building Values only.

GDIC now set to §2,200
HK Fab 2 Hi-Tech now set to §2,700
HK Fab 2 Manufacturing now set to §1,800

And my test in game with no bulldozing. (Look at the monthly income.)

This is fine should someone want to do the work. (I don't have PIM-X set up on this little comp.)

Yeah I'm still mostly checking-in via my phone or my wife's laptop occasionally.  Still trying to build a new desktop.  Needless to say, it's taking a while.

Although, if I can in the future make a CAM and non-CAM revision to those buildings, what would be the way to do it and get it posted?  Just a relot file or something else?

I believe it would be similar to a relot, but in this case the only changes would be in the building exemplars. (The lot file is what determines where the building is placed and which and where textures and props go.)

So yeah, I believe just make two versions of the .desc file with the exact same name so peeps can directly overwrite the old version and it'll be good to go. (Ofc, you'd explain what your files do and why peeps'd want them.)

For my part, I changed only the part which was related to the OP's request. *;)

Thanks so much Cori! I won't tolerate any corruption in my administration. Nice to know there will be a self adjustment. I look forward to trying them out.

Just so I'm completely clear, do the original files remain?

Yes, you do keep all the original files.  But, also the original ones (which have names the same as in my zip file) are to be overwritten.

So it could be said you need to remove the 3 corresponding original .desc files then add mine in their place. I packaged mine using the same folder structure as the originals so you should be able to find them in your Plugins.
