Hi,

Since returning to SimCity 4, I've been having the issue where textures begin to 'overlay' on themselves when scrolling.

I am using the version of DGvoodoo from SC4Evermore alongside the Graphics and CPU .DLL mods (set to DirectX mode) provided here on Simtropolis, but still seem to be running into graphical issues. I have tweaked all the settings that I can think of on my end and the issue unfortunately does not cease. I did not have this issue on the old SC4Launcher but it appears that has been hidden after the DLL mods were released.

I am playing on an RTX 4070 with a 2560x1140 monitor on Windows 11, if that helps.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Is your computer a laptop or a desktop?

I don't have that issue on a desktop with Win11 24H2 and a 4070 Super with the latest drivers.

I am wondering if that is the same AMD scrolling issue that Maxis mentioned in Graphics Rules.sgr. You should be able to activate that special scrolling mode in-game by typing the following command in the cheat box:

renderprop noPartialBackingStoreCopies true

To turn the option off, change the true value to false.

Hi!  I noticed that your comment said you were running 24H2.  I just installed this the other day on my Dell laptop and now the game is lagging terribly - won't scroll the placement menus properly even.  I have updated the Intel graphics drivers again (I think correctly) but same issue.  I commented this on another area here as well.  I am thinking that I have to 'restore' Windows without 24H2 as it does not to be able to be uninstalled completely.  Do you think this is more or a graphics issue though?

Possibly a DirectX wrapper setting. @Ulisse Wolf updated the DgVoodoo 2 - SimCity 4 Edition download with some changes for 24H2, e.g. DirectX 12 is now the default output mode. I have found DirectX 11 to be more stable than DirectX 12, but that would probably depend on the GPU. IIRC Intel only implemented DirectX 11 and/or 12 support in their drivers.

Exactly. DirectX 11 is more stable but for some reason the 24H2 update requires DirectX 12 as the main DirectX. It also doesn't help that Intel, AMD and Nvidia are changing their drivers making it harder for SC4 to use DirectX.  It doesn't help either the changes they made in the Windows Scheduler because of Intel and their CPUs having P-Core & E-Core making it mandatory to run SC4 with the highest CPU priority.

If it is a laptop then the problem may be a lack of synchronization between SC4, Wrapper and GPU which is solved by going into Nvidia's control panel and forcing the use of the GPU Dedicated to SC4 and Wrapper. Follow this tutorial.

What GPU do you have? If you have an Intel GPU you're pretty much screwed as Intel GPUs don't support older DirectX versions and wrappers can have problems with Intel GPUs.

If you use dgvoodoo 2 with an Intel GPU and have problems you need to change wrappers and use this one

I do have an Intel GPU - it looks like an IRIS(R) XE Graphics card.  I don't think I use dgvoodoo because I am not sure what it is even - apologies I am not very well versed with this stuff.  So are you saying there really is no solution as long as I have this Intel GPU?  And if I get a new laptop with an Nvidia are there specifics do's and dont's for being able to run the game.

I was just getting back to playing with SC4 after 5 years away and enjoying all the new things (including HRW!) so I would love to find a solution.

dgvoodoo is the solution to your problem because your GPU does not have full support for old DirectX but only for DirectX 11 and 12.

Dgvoodoo and the like convert calls from old DirectX versions to DirectX 11 or 12 calls increasing the stability of the game
