LGR dropped this reminder a couple days that SimCity 3000 recently hit 25 years old!

What are your memories of SimCity 3000?  Personally speaking, I missed out on this one and only picked it up on the cheap on the old EA store about 2 weeks before SimCity 4 went gold.  So I sadly never got to spend nearly as much time with it as SimCity or SimCity 2000 which were staples of my childhood.  But I absolutely love the art direction in 3000 and I think the OST is still superb to this day.

25 years already? Holy cow, what a time to be alive! SimCity 3000 was my very first SimCity experience. I remember myself being a teenager back in 1999, experimenting and failing miserably in my attempts to build the best city, believing that the "no power" signs were sculptures, learning English words such as landfills and taxes, discovering exotic technologies like waste-to-energy incineration and desalinization plants, and overall  "wasting" my time on that game to the point of cutting class just to play it. In the year 2000 I became a Britney Spears fan and I build a city for her, named Britney City. No pictures sadly, but I think I still have a copy of the city somewhere. And let's be honest, SC3K is the best SC game ever. Even though SC4 is indeed awesome and technically superior to any other SC game (yes, it can even eat SC13 for lunch), it have never gotten the cozy, silly, jazzy, wholesome feeling of SC3K. And I think this is my favorite part of SC3K. The colorful feeling of building your urban empire in a digital nutshell.

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides
