ZIP and BLD files

Why do people have to use ZIP files?  Bill Gates is a total *--------*.  You can't trust that *--------* an inch.  Who the hell knows what really is in his ZIP software?  And you have to pay for it, so he gets to know all your creditcard details too.  

It breaks my heart to see this great site, trashed with ZIP files that need the intervention of Bil Gates to access.

Get the free "1 month" trial version of WinZip. It opens Zippers forever. I've had my version for about 20 years now. It's been common internet knowledge for a long time. BTW, for those oddball zips, this is also a free service- ezyZip  https://www.ezyzip.com/

Hi there Quelquechosedautre, Im sorry you are feeling this way about zip files, I had plan on writing more to you about the benefits of zip files and what not but I believe that @SIM-ple Jack has really explained it well...

Doctor?  They all work for Bill Gates now!  Maybe that's what we most need to make our cities realistic to the current era - a giant cemetery in BLD format.

I understand you may have strong opinions about Microsoft or Bill Gates, but please mind the site's guidelines.

On the topic at hand, I believe there is a general consensus that zip is the preferred format for mod distribution, at least on the SC4 side of things.  It has been around a long time.  If you are wary of proprietary software, why not try a free or open source one like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip ?

Firstly, I think that it is beyond dispute tat Bill Gates is a ruthless businessman and that it does not seem sensible for us to put  "all our eggs in one basket"... certainly when Bill Gates and MIcrosoft are not trustworthy.

Secondly, I am not involved in SC4,  I work to produce wonders in SC3000 where I have been trying to resurrect deceased companies, like Tie Rack and Woolworths, honest ones that DID deserve to live on, but were destroyed by exactly the some ilk as Mr. Gates.  Indeed, it is deeply heartbreaking that Woolworths went too the wall.  In the UK, Woolies provided absolutely excellent training for many generations of ordinary high school failures who were just not that smart academically and gave them a real future and a career path to a decent living through hard work and honesty.

As for Bill Gates, he's just getting revenge on us all for his 1999 pieing.

Anyway, his wife took half his money, so it all worked out in the end. I like how the reporter treated this as an epic news story.
