Uncontrolled Riot

Well, I've had riots before, but never one that I wasn't able to control. That just changed tonight. It started due to the fact that crime rate was high because I had no police force in a city of 21,000. the riot started at the end of a dead end street which was 15 squares long. So I had plenty of time to build a police station and a jail before it got out of control. I sent my 4 units in to squash this thing. Unit 1 set up at the intersection of this street the rioters were on. Unit 2 blocked off the subdivision this street was in. Unit 3 & 4 arrived as backups. Unit 1 met the rioters as they came up the street. Then my barricade of police officers disappeared and the riots escaped their confinement on this street. I now had riots on 3 streets. Unit 2 took over where unit 1 failed and blocked off the original street the riot began on. Unit 3 was used to clear a second street the riot spread to. Unit 1 was ineffective in chasing down a suspect that ran down a third street. Then disaster hit. Again, my police barricades disappeared and the rioters escaped. I tried moving the 4th unit in, but a police barricade was never set up. I now had 4 useless police units that rioters passed right on by them. I tried retreating to see if the barricades would reset, but all I had was 4 police vehicles that didn't scare the rioters one bit. Any suggestions?

I am confused about that. It could be a glitch. When you send cop cars there are they cars or vans? THe vans i think are for riots. Try to dispatch more cars. It it dosen't works destroy the road so the riot can't go anywhere. hope it helps.

wow, I have never even seen a riot.  try raising education and you should have less crime.

lol, I guess your rioters were really serious about the poor conditions in your city.  perhaps they broke the barricade because they convinced the police officer about thier side of things!

I actually once ended a riot forcibly. To accomplish that, Press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click on the God Mode button. Then, go to the Terraform Tools. Choose any tool from the 'Make Mountains', 'Gouge Valleys' or 'Level Terrain' group.

Use it the same way as you did before you established your city. The terrain modifications destroy nearly any structure, but it destroy roads which rioters occupy, and the riot should be over after a moment.

Personally, I've never had a riot. I've tried to get one before but they wouldn't budge. But if you want to lower crime then educate your sims. I think its Sims/Education=Crime, I think but I'm not postive3.gif

To have more chance of riots, I think is you need a Low or 'Rock-Bottom' Mayor Rating.

If you want to see riots, I posted a mod to the STEX a few months back that gives you lots of riots. I forget where it is, but do a search for bones1 on the STEX and you'll find it. (I haven't posted much stuff there, so it'll show up easily.)

You'll probably get so sick of riots after a few minutes, you'll delete the mod and never install it again!

IIRC, the conditions for a riot are something like a local mayor rating less than -50. (This is different than the global value reported in the game.) You have to have a pretty bad city to get conditions like that.

All my mod does is raise that to something like +50. (I forget exactly what value I used.)

    Thanks to everyone who replied.

Ok, I wasn't concerned about how to prevent a riot. Mine started because I had no police force and crime rate got out of hand. I also had riots due to not having hospitals and had riots in a city filled with Casinos. I don't mined riots because in the past, I just dispatched the police, set up road blocks to contain the rioters and the riots soon ended without me doing much else. But this was the first time I saw the line of police officers disappear before the riot ended, allowing the rioters to roam freely even though the police units (car and vans) where still sitting there. Since this doesn't seem to ever have had happened to anyone else, maybe it was some sort of weird glitch. PII 256meg does make it difficult to play large cities and I have had some pretty weird stuff happen before. And just in case anyone was wondering. I wasn't using any mods or cheats for this city to have caused this either.
    Thanks again.

That's really interesting. I'm sure any Simtropolis anarchists would be delighted to see out-of-hand rioting in their cities.

Now I'm inspired to build a really horrible city in an effort to duplicate this anomoly.
