Crashing When Exiting to Region

Hello

This started after removing the JENXAIRPORT Dulles airport. I entered the city and got the warning about not having the file. I then removed the apron that had a brown box and saved the city. Exited to the region and CTD everytime since.

SimCity 4 Deluxe 1.1.640.0 On Win 10 with 4gb patch and NAM

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz   3.60 GHz

I put the backup copy in and got it caught up with the faulty copy.

I then put the JENXAIRPORT Dulles airport back in. All parts of the airport saved and exited to the region until i put the apron down then CTD when exiting to the region. I thought this might have to do with the JENXAIRPORT Dulles airport Apron but it seems to have do more with the size of the city then the content.

I was able to add the airport when the city was smaller and it would go to the region view without crashing.

I can load the city and it does save OK. It just CTD when the button is pressed to go to the region view.

I am using the save warning mod.

It does this even when the save warning mod is removed.

I have been using it for awhile and then it quite working on just one of my cities in the region. It crashes to desk top after trying to go to the region.

This is the Dump File from the latest crash with out the airport:

I do not know what the above means. I know a small amount of computer programming.

Any Ideas on how to fix this??

This started after removing the JENXAIRPORT Dulles airport. I entered the city and got the warning about not having the file. I then removed the apron that had a brown box and saved the city. Exited to the region and CTD everytime since.

Did you read the instructions that came with this airport or any airport controller it relies on to work?

I ask because you've just committed the ultimate no-no, removing something from your Plugins folder, that is used as part of a save file. There are always consequences, but in the case of Seaport and Airport controllers, you may not be able to recover your city unless you can reconcile things. You need to try and restore the last working configuration (Plugins), if you can do that it might clear up the error and prevent the problem from occurring.

You need to think very carefully before installing functional Seaport and Airport mods, once used with a region, you can never go back.

If you have backups, now's the time to consider returning to a previously working state.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

The last backup that works dose not have the JENXAIRPORT Dulles airport and the Functional Airport version 2.2

It does have a Maxis airport.

It does have the Seaport mod but no seaports in this city. This is the largest tile in the region also.

The effected city loads and saves it just will not exit to the region after saving.

Are you saying that I need to remove the airports mod before loading the backup. Save the city and then add the airports back in.

Do I have to remove all the dependencies also.

We all do dumb things I have read the readme for both mods. In trying to see how things work I removed this thinking with a backup

I could always go back two square one. Some instructions for these mods are not very clear for a novice like me. To even get the airports to work I had to add a folder to Enable them.

One thing I am still not clear on is if the original airport can still be in the game with the new airports. The file to block the Maxis airport was not included in version 2.2. I wish the person that made the airports mod was still involved with SC4. There stuff is awesome. I would like to try making Mods myself if I can learn more about how the game works.

What files are altered during a save. I noticed these are: region.ini ,Cityname.sc4 and SimCity 4.cfg. Are there others to replace with the backup.

I first just replaced the Cityname.sc4 then I tried the other two. The problem seems to start when the city gets to a certain size with or with out the airports.

This is a sure fire sign of save file corruption, once this happens you can't do anything about it.

Whilst that isn't a direct cause of the problem, it can contribute to such corruption, the most well-documented cause of that is switching focus whilst saving or simply using the Save and Exit to Region or Save and Quit options. With mods and the advances in computers, we're able to push the game far beyond what was ever intended. The save process is quite intensive and what can happen is that it doesn't quite complete before the game returns to the region view or quits entirely, the last part of this process being to take a screenshot for the region view. If that last part doesn't complete once, subsequent saves are fine, but it can't update the region screenshot anymore, which leads to the CTD.

All in all though, that would be rather a different problem to one caused by Seaport/Airport controllers.

Actually of these, only the .sc4 file gets altered, the .cfg file is nothing to do with save data and the .ini file would only be needed if moving/copying an entire region.

I don't know how the specific mod you are using works, but if it's a functional airport it'll be using Functional Airports as a dependency. All I can really allude to here is that Airport Controllers and Seaport Controllers both have some very specific dos and don'ts, which if not followed can break save files. It has something to do with the controller, if a custom one is present I believe other files also need to be present. Once you've put one of these in-game and saved it, you can never remove that controller or related files.

However it seems perhaps I've jumped the gun too soon on thinking that was your issue. If you are going to restore the city in question, you don't have to alter your Plugins to match, so you should be safe to simply restore the .sc4 file affected. After that just be real careful to use CTRL+S (or just save) in-game and avoid using the options that cause problems, there's even a mod to help with that.

    It has me confused.

I do have the save warning in and all the other recommended Mods to help crashes.

When I reinstalled the city I built it back up to the CTD point had the Airport in and it was working as intended as I built more onto the city it started CTD when going to the region but saved and loaded Ok.

I have rebuilt the city trying to solve this about 6 times so far leaving different things out.

At one point everything was good then it CTD on exit to region so I loaded the backup from a couple hours before and it started to CTD on exit to region when it had worked ok before.

I deleted the region file and put the two good cities back in and started over on problem city. So far so good.

By doing this is the bad tile now gone or is it saved somewhere else and when I put something on it will this start over again.
