World Capitol Project

This city started off a decade ago as a thought experiment, a fictional capitol city built on the banks of Bristol Channel in the Western United Kingdom.

Many of the major buildings were painstakingly drawn in concept art which I created at the time with Google Sketchup.  Accompanying this project is a fairly elaborate alt history fiction which sets its stage.

The World Capitol, known commonly as New Babylon, exists in a world which never saw the fall of Communism or the defeat of the Nazis.  World War II never happened.  Instead, all major political factions Capitalists, Communists, and Fascists, came together to create a super seat of global power.  This, it is supposed, was the peacetime city which they created together.

A waterfront quay was added, as well as general waterfront residential properties.  Flora and flags were added near the U.S. Capitol Centre.  Zeppelin Field was updated with the addition of a Museum and Memorial.

Today we have updates to the residential street grid, a major freeway interchange addition, more miscellaneous large monumental government and cultural structures, flora additions to park areas, and expansion of the retail commercial district.

This week's edits included a row of nicer hotels on the north end of Wall Street, filling out the rest of that corridor of towers and large buildings, and more retail.  Cheaper hotels line the freeway, and the addition of a rest stop/truck stop area makes its appearance, along with various restaurants.

Today we have a couple more residential neighborhood additions on the East Side, as well as an industrial park to the south.

Residential districts continue to expand around the outskirts of the city.  Additional highway exchanges were added as well.  Open spaces are deliberately left between various neighborhoods, which allows room for future parks, public lands, walking trails, and special monuments.
