    Thanks! The update with the hill covered snow came from the nifty christmas snow easter egg.  Set the clock on your computer to dec. 25 and snow will form in the higher elevations during the winter months. 19.gif

    Yeah, I like to have heavier traffic too...makes the city seem more realistic.  Anyways, I followed the suggestions on this traffic jam topic  49.gif to get graphically heavier traffic.  It took a little work but it's pretty easy.  Good luck to ya and thanks for having a look at Caspen!

    Following on the success of Highpoint North, Rozier Homes is proud to introduce its newest Caspen community, The Cottages at North Arden, just one exit south of Highpoint North.  The Cottages features beautiful and spacious homesites at affordable prices.  It is also located in one of Caspen's most prestigious suburbs.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden2.jpg align=baseline>
    Like Highpoint North, The Cottages is located in the rapidly growing town of Benton in north Arden County...about 35 miles north of downtown Caspen just off I-15.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden3.JPG align=baseline>
    Step back in time in The Cottages.  Enjoy a quiet, safe neighborhood with beautiful 19th century architecture, spacious front and back yards, as well as a close proximity to the best schools in Arden County.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden4.JPG align=baseline>
    The landscaped entrance to The Cottages is welcoming and inviting.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden5.JPG align=baseline>
    Our fully furnished and decorated model home is open Mon-Sat and has shows off all of the amenities that the cottages in our community offer.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden6.JPG align=baseline>
    We have a wide range of plans for your family, from a small one-story cottage to a larger two-story cottage for larger families.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden7.JPG align=baseline>
    The Cottages at North Arden is unique because every homesite offers beautifully landscaped one to two-acre lots with a two-car garage and garden.  Garages are detached and built behind the cottages to maintain the neighborhood's architectural integrity.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden8.JPG align=baseline>
    Our cottages are very affordable.  Prices range from the high 100's to the mid 200's.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden9.JPG align=baseline>
    Benton Academy, one of the Caspen area's best private schools, is within walking distance to our community.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden10.JPG align=baseline>
    Benton Elementary and Benton High School are also close to The Cottages.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//arden11.JPG align=baseline>
    If your family is looking for a more urban lifestyle, Rozier Homes welcomes you to look at its newest townhomes just outside The Cottages.

    Getting alot of traffic also means having to deal with it. 18.gif  My biggest problem is I have a traffic volume of about 7000 cars & buses traveling on I-40 between Oakridge and downtown Caspen.  I built the 8-lane Oakland Expressway but that doesn't seem to help.  Look's like I'm going to have to do some major upgrades to I-40...the simple ground highway isn't going to cut it anymore.

    Wow..I didn't know you could upload cities to the STEX.  It would be interesting to see what all the amazing city builders out there could do with Caspen.

    In response to the question about the cottages...they were done by simgoober and you can download them from the STEX .  I love everything done by simgoober...Caspen's almost entirely filled with his lots. 18.gif

    Downloading a region full of cities is unreasonable, and won't happen here. The filesize of regions is large, but you also have to remember that you would need every single custom lot and modd that the origional creator had.

    BTW awesome region, it is great inspiration.

    EDIT: Lol I just realized your using an edited Boston region.

    Benson

    The Suburb by the Sea...

    Caspen continues to grow at a rapid pace, but until now, the city's sprawl has been

     primarily north and west.  The extension of I-15 further southward has now opened up lands south of the city for suburban development.  Benson, the first southern suburb, quickly grew from a population of 0 to a population of over 13,000 in just a few years.  City leaders are in the midst of a heavy advertising campaign to attract sims to Benson.  Benson's sales pitch is the natural beauty of the area...it's the suburb by the sea.  Many argue that Benson is Caspen's most beautiful suburb to date.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson1.JPG align=baseline>

    When city planners layed out Benson, they wanted to produce a real and distinct city (kind of like Milltown).  They wanted Benson to avoid becoming another generic strip-city like Bryton and Marlon.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson2.JPG align=baseline>

    Downtown Benson has an interesting mix of commercial and residential zones.  The Benson canal bisects downtown and creates scenic city views.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson3.JPG align=baseline>

    Bentwood Park is a great common area for sims to go take a stroll or look down the canal.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson4.JPG align=baseline>

    Just northwest of the canal is the city's business center.  Benson was just recently incorporated as a city and a new city hall was built.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson5.JPG align=baseline>

    The city has a distinct urban atmosphere.  Benson's street configuration and medium density buildings create a city-like feeling without the heavy congestion of Caspen.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson6.JPG align=baseline>

    Darwood Road is the primary arterial route in the city.  Benson is about 20 minutes from Darwood and about 30 minutes from Caspen.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//benson7.JPG align=baseline>

    I-15 is the only highway that runs through Bentwood County.  It's a fast way to get to Caspen.

    Metro Caspen Grows

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//view.jpg align=baseline>

    Caspen's growth is starting to take a new direction toward the south.  With the explosive growth of Benson, a string of new suburban settlements are expected to follow.  Extensions are planned for I-23 and the South Pointe Expressway.  New Waverly DOT is also planning a possible outer-loop highway that would link all of Caspen's exurbs together.  The loop would run from Benson, through Marlon and Oakridge, through Benton, and ending in Carillon.  Meanwhile, upgrades are planned for existing roadways in Oakland County as its population continues to soar.  A massive new theme park is also planned in South Metro Caspen.

    Back to the City...a look at Midtown and Oakland County

    Suburban Caspen has been sprawling outward like there's no tomorrow, but back in the city buildings continue to sprout upward.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//old2.JPG align=baseline>

    Remember this?  Yep, that's Midtown...at least that's what Midtown used to look like.  The neighborhood has shifted primarily from a business district to the cultural hub of Caspen (thanks in part to the new Midtown Arts Center).

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//midtownnew1.JPG align=baseline>

    Sure, more businesses are flocking to Midtown than ever before, but now sims can finally live, work and play in Midtown...there's more things to do than ever before.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//midtownnew2.JPG align=baseline>

    The new Midtown Arts Center is home to the Opera House, several performance halls and theaters.  CTA even added a new transit station in the center so sims can get there fast.  The new seaport and fishing dock nearby are also attracting new types of activity to the area as well.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//old1.JPG align=baseline>

    And here's another before shot.  Oakridge has certainly changed more than any other city so far...

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//oakridgenew1.JPG align=baseline>

    Oakland County has been growing at a remarkably fast pace lately.  Such growth has forced Oakridge to change from a sleepy hillside town to its own mini-metropolis.  The city even sports its own municipal airport now.  At over 70,000 sims, Oakland County is now the second-largest county in the metro area and the third-largest in all of New Waverly.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//oakridgenew2.JPG align=baseline>

    One things hasn't changed in Oakland County...it still snows in the winter.  The scenic skyline still gives the city a natural feel even today.  No one saw this growth spurt coming and the county's transportation network is suffering.  I-40 can no longer handle the traffic volumes that travel the highway.  Some proposed solutions include widening the highway and adding collector/distributor roads as well as adding a new elevated rail line.

    New Outer Loop Proposal Surfaces

    It's been a long time coming.  Caspen continues to grow, especially on the western side of the city.  As Oakland County's population inches closer to 100,000 and suburbs are booming to the south and northwest, the idea of an outer loop highway doesn't seem quite so crazy anymore.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//loop.jpg align=baseline>

    So what would the new highway mean for the rest of Caspen?  Possibly less traffic snarls.  In Oakland County, I-40 can no longer handle the traffic volumes that pressure it everyday.  The west side of I-315 faces some pretty congested rush hours as well.  New Waverly DOT thinks that if I-615 were built, more traffic would be diverted away from I-315 and it would ease problems along Caspen's beltway.  In addition to constructing I-615, DOT also wants to widen I-40 from 6 to 12 lanes between I-615 and I-315.

    Stay tuned for more updates about the new highway.

    Wow, thanks for the encouragement.  The more I play around with Caspen the more I love it...it's sort of become my baby.  So, Shadow_Assassin: you miss the charm of the old Caspen, huh?  30.gif  I might have to agree with you on that...I think the new Caspen is still searching for its identity.  Hopefully everything will come together.  I'm glad the transportation network is well-liked.  I've decided to go ahead and build I-615 (which is going to be interesting) as well as a new West Line (elevated-rail or subway...haven't decided which one yet) that will run from downtown to Westwood.  Look for the next update to be next weekend (hopefully).  Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

    BTW, the snow comes from the nifty Dec. 25 easter egg.  set your computer's clock to Dec. 25 and watch the lovely snow appear. 19.gif
