Hi there,

This is my first post so I hope it's in the right forum.

I have an issue in one of my cities where the fire fighters and police keep striking because they are under funded. Each time I get the message I increase the funds to maximun in the budget and also by selecting individual stations with the query tool.

After a while the budget starts reducing again and they strike. I have never had this issue before - especially the budget reducing on its own!

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

The budget reducing on its own??? The opposite sometimes happen with education, but with safety I've never heard of it. Does the same happen in all of your cities? Did you try adjusting the general funding, without adjusting the individual funding?

Hi, and thanks for replying. I changed the overall budget as well as individual budgets but they seem to reduce themselves too!

I will try deleting my custom lots and see if that works.

    Thanks again

do u have the same problem in all of ur cities? if so, probably the problem lies in the game's program. so u can try completely reinstalling ur game (but keep ur saved cities)...

The only time I've seen issues like this is when an alteration has been made to the lot in question. It was very common back when people were modding hospitals and schools to have a larger capacity and/or cost or whatever. Basically, in any city where the structure already existed, the game had trouble reconciling the alteration with the existing ones. Bulldozing all of the existing ones and replacing them was I THINK the way to fix the issue.

I have the same problem with my Parks and Recreation budget increasing.

Just now my Utilities-Power budget started reducing automatically.
I replaced 12 aging windmill plants with 1 solar power plant.
A few moths later... total blackout.
My budget slider was at 1/3.
I can't play my city anymore, by the time they recover from the blackout the slider has already decreased until 1/2.
In my budget list appears one item called building with cost at 0, just like with my parks budget problem.
The only modded power plant I use is the CSX Rural Waste Tech, but I don't think the problem lies there.
The same plant is used in another city without this problem (yet).
And it is also listed as a seperate item in the budget list, with correct cost.
I don't mind some searching and testwork, but I simply have no idea where to start.
I can't just disable all my plugins, my city wouldn't be playable without them.
Besides, The Parks budget problem did not solve when I removed the billboards.
I think the first step would be re-installing the game 32.gif
    Meanwhile... all help welcome.

I've seen this problem before - I had it with a police station on one of my cities.

When I expanded the public safety window, you can see the sliders for Police, Fire, etc, and next to them there is an eye. If you click this, you can open another window which shows you the funding for each individual police station, etc, to manage each one individually.

When I had this problem, I found by looking at each police station, I had one on there that said something like file not found with the slider set to zero and it wouldn't let me increase the slider. Every month, when the budget was being recalculated, for some reason, this caused it to pull down the funding on my police department, with the same results as you guys are seeing now.

I think I brought this about by building these custom police stations, then later on removing them from my plugins folder then trying to delete them from my city - it didn't work - the location the station was was empty but the game was still behaving as if the broken station was there and kept reducing my funding.

I tried to correct this by restoring the plug, rebuilding the station on top, wiping out all my public safety buildings, saving, then going back in, but no joy.

In the end I had to blitz the city and rebuild from scratch to stop it happening.

Not what you wanted to hear, I know, but it's the only solution I found :o/

(I know you're all probably long gone by now but-) scoobsuk- about your problem of the "ghost" of the building still showing up even after you destroy it--it may finally disappear if you use the dezone tool.

I know this sounds weird on a non-zonable building but some custom buildings remain even after you destroy them and the only way to get rid of them is to dezone them.

Too bad you bombed your city but maybe if it happens again you or someone else can try it...

    Try this:

    - Backup your city (copy the city file or region folder somewhere else).

    - Set funding for police and fire to zero for all police/fire station (better go to the budget window and set funding for both departments to zero).

    - Start your city for slightly more than a gamemonth. You will get strikes, ignore this.

    - Stop your city, go to the budget window again, and set funding to normal.

    - Run your city normally for slightly more than a gamemonth.

    - Stop your city and check if funding has remained at normal level. If yes save your city.

Please let us know the results. I had the same problem with power plants and fixed it this way. I don't know if this will work for police and fire too.
