NAM overtake

Hello,

Tropod announced to retire modding and that anybody else shall overtake the function as maintainer of the NAM. Is there anybody who is going to overtake the maintainer role? If not, we should discuss how future NAM versions will be released. It may be possible to have more than one maintainer.

The maintainer should be a very active member, have the knowledge to merge content, to sort out garbage in the DAT file, to test the user submissions well and to find out data-conflicts; at last to document, coordinate and to distribute the stuff. At last, the maintainer should know the NAM developers and developement.

I have nearly retired the NAM development too. Maybe, I will make experiments and play with newly-discovered technologies but I am not going to make any new puzzle pieces or interchange-related items.

my ideas for persons for overtaking the NAM:

Andreas Roth
Frimi
Karybdis
Qurlix
Smoncrie
Swamper77
Vester_DK

Maybe I have forgotten anyone. There are a few unlisted people with a better experience but they're too inactive. Anybody other ideas?

i think Smoncrie, he certainly seems to be the most active at the moment. Is tropod leaving simtropolis, or just the NAM?

As far as I know, Tropod was/is in the process of moving houses etc., so he doesn't have the time to visit ST on a regular base at the moment. As GoaSkin said, a future maintainer should know quite a bit of modding regarding all the various aspects of the transportation network, and I also think that smoncrie is the most-skilled person at the moment. Considering myself, I'm way too busy with various other things, so I don't think I can help even more. However, since I created the NAM installer script, I could compile the installation files and forward them to Dirk for the upload to ST's modding section.

I agree with the others having Smoncrie as the maintainer of the NAM. I'm just starting to understand how the rotation ring RULs work, so I'm not much help. If I'm given the numbers to use and told what to do, I can do something. I'm not very good at working alone15.gif

This is great how we are getting this organised. I think that Tropod has just had enough of staring at the reader for half his life and wants to live all the other aspects of life!

I personally think that Smoncrie should take over as the head of the NAM. I said this in the Double Decker Bridge Thread and for that reason plus many others.

But from the list, this is the order I put them in.

1st: Smoncrie
2nd: Qurlix
Equal 3rd: Swamper 77 & Karybdis
Equal 5th: Andreas Roth & Frimi
7th: Vester_DK
But i will also put...
8th: New York Runway 1
Because he is the one who is organising the whole NAM website.

These are just my thoughts. Great to see the NAM moving up another gear and hopefully working towards a new release because we are (again) getting to the point where there is countless temporary NAM plugin files and it gets very confusing after a while.

I thought I would put this in but what I think should be included into the NAM:

> Rural Highway Mod (Qurlix & Co) along with the Two Lane Highways ANT Retexturing (Me (Lakeyboy) and 1dera3)
> Euro Road Textures Mod (Frimi2)
> Asphalt Highways Mod (Throvin)
> Avenue Median Turning Lane Mod (RyanbSc4)

I'll take Karybdis off the list, if you guys don't mind. He's quite busy with other stuff ATM.

A few weeks ago, he asked me to make a 1x1 lot for him since he didn't have enough time to do it himself.

Oh, I thought we had already voted for this...didn't Tropod technically leave back in November? Anyway, my vote was and still is for smoncrie. 44.gif

I'm pretty sure he agrees. After all tropod voted for him.

While we are at it, I think we need to create an official NAM team list.

And in response to lakeyboy, are there specific criteria for inclusion of texture-related mods? Because if we don't have any, I think we need some, as the size of the NAM could multiply quickly. (Very scary to dial-up users like me)

This isn't a vote. No one signalized yet that he wants to take this over and if there are potentially more people who want to maintain the NAM, the developers must discuss this. That is no public descission.

@Lakeyboy: Who is we? The NAM is a software project and no sports club and the developers of the NAM really don't need any users signalizing to fanatize the MOD. That is stupid and childish. And by the way, Newyorkrunaway1 just wants to be an essential person depending the NAM but he never made anything for the MOD. He created a NAM homepage and asked the publicity if they want to let it be the place for the NAM and not the people behind it. The home of the NAM is still Simtropolis and not his site.

Alas, the best I can do is support whoever does take over, and maybe help with packing it up on the off chance I have extra time that isnt better spent with my wife. And maintaining the modding database I put online hopefully.

I agree with qurl: I think smoncrie is the best for that job (except Tropod, of course 2.gif)

    Edit:
I know, it is the wrong place, but: Happy new year to you all and thanks for the good work 19.gif

sorry to hear you had the flu smoncrie,

yes i too would like to see something done with the ant. i was thinking since it has the capacity between avenue and motorway? or is it road and avenue?

any way i was thinking, it could be like a 'supastrada' italian word, i traveled on them on holiday. basically they are like motor ways (not a lot of lanes, 2-3 max each way) that conect 2 places directly, no interchanges that i could see. start and finish thats it, these cut down commute time a lot.

... and Motortrafikvej or Motorvej in Danish ( close by in swedish and norwegian).

I most say that I am flatter that I am in consideration, but my best bets was Smoncrie or Qurlix.

Well congratulations Smoncrie on the appointment. I know you will do a good job.

Good to hear you got over the flue.
