It DOES rock, I can vouch for that.  Beating this game sucked a good number of hours out of my life, and I count them well spent.  I think that the only time I've ever enjoyed being scared to death more was in the Shalebridge Cradle in Thief III.

If it wasn't for Halo, this game would be the best FPS on the market today! (IMO)

There is also an expansion pack in the making!  Whoo Hoo!  I can't wait to see what they come up with!  All I've heard is the return of the Double-Barreled Shotgun, and lots of new types of enemies, but I'm sure id will do a fantastic job.

You can't say this game doesn't have amazing graphics, but I heard it's not so amazing when it comes to gameplay. The game is a too simplistic FPS, probably because they wanted it to have the same feel as the previous Doom games... the problem is, the previous Doom games are just too old and for today's standards their approach isn't interesting anymore.
Nonetheless, it looks like it's worth playing just for the amazing visuals... and it does seem scary!

I think Doom 3 is an excellent game. The only way to play it is during the middle of the night with the lights turned off and the sound turned up.11.gif It has so many *little moments* in it...he he

As far as gameplay goes, yeah it can become mindless shooting, but I find nothing wrong with that. It simply wouldn't be Doom without it. I think with all the 1st and 3rd person shooters around that require so much, I guess, strategy, stealth, etc, a game that involves some old school shoot-em-up gameplay is, in my opinion, a breath of fresh air.

I got it as soon as it came out, beat it at least twice, and can still sit down to play it and be entertained. I highly recommend Doom 3. If you're into that kind of game, of course.11.gif10.gif

The graphics are amazing... it's just sad that they don't use the full potential of the graphics to create some good scaring parts 5.gif

After about 1 hour of gameplay, there's nothing left to be scared of, since you can tell where the next monsters will be, because they're always hidden in the same places...

And I hate it when there's only one way to go... I love mazes and would say it could have been interesting in this game to make several ways to get to the end, but also have some dead ends...

I think I've finished 50% of the game, then I stopped playing... I doubt I'll ever finish it...

Sure, this is an old thread, but I just finished Doom 3 and WOW, I mean WOW. Sure, it's simplistic shooting, but it's utilization of DX9, the terrific story, and atmospheric horror that rivals some of the greatest Italian horror flicks ever made make this the pinnacle of PC gaming. Sure, Doom 3 has been around of PC for quite some time, but it is the standard for gauging your gaming PCs performance. When this game was announced, I was setback by iD's decision to go DX9 instead of OpenGL, considering all the great support iD gave to the OpenGL community but any doubt was extinguished upon playing this game. As a casual gamer, I like games that are simple and easy to get in and out of, and Doom 3 was it. Sure, it needs a lot of power, but it runs great on my Celeron D 2.93, Geforce FX 5200 Ultra, and 512MBs of PC2700, 1024x768 with medium details, good enough for me. I love the addition of Ultra settings for down the road when you want to revisit Mars, hopefully on a 1GHz+ GPU with 1024MBs of RAM. 1.gif

Has anyone here beaten it?? My friend who's a really hard-core gamer (skips school and plays 54 hours straight on the net 46.gif) tried playing it at my place...and he got pwned using the full weapons cheat. And it was on easy (or medium) too 3.gif.

My compliments to all those people who actually manage it without cheats. I mean, survival is impossible for me. On the off-chance that I don't suffer a heart attack playing it, I can never get past more than a few levels 3.gif.

The graphics are awesome though. Going to try it on my new computer with a GeForce 6800 GT!! 36.gif

Ryan and I played through the demo, but never got the full game.  I thought just the demo was pretty scary, especially playing it late at night in the pitch black...its rather creepy and definitely made me jump a few times.

I haven't played Doom 3, but from what I can tell, it reminds me of the sixth level on the original Halo.

Guinea--I loved those screenshots, especially the ones that you only posted links for.

I love how id drove the story line by reading the emails of dead people.  Not exactly novel, but it will definitely scare you silly at night.

Although a lot of the actual gameplay mechanics suck, the game is still good for a midnight pee in your pants session.

I bought it for the Xbox about a month ago... sure it doesn't look as great as PC version, but it's gorgeous (or horrendous) looking nonetheless.

The game is amazing for the visuals, but even more for the sound. The scary mood is set by the darkness and for the amazing creatures, but especially by all the creepy sounds you hear (babies crying, marines screaming in pain over the radio, things falling in the metal floor, among many others). The evil laughs coming from nowhere and echoing throught the corridors always make me sweat.

Sometimes you hear strange sounds (like footseps of breathing) or something moving in the shadows and go investigate... and odddly enough... sometimes you find nothing there! Makes you think you're allucinating...

Btw, my special editon comes with Ultimate Doom and Doom 2, and it's relieving to go back to those classic games once in a while... it's like playing a game full of cute teddy bears and happy little girls after some good hours in Doom 3.
