Hi all! I'm new to this site~~

i wanna know how to make best use of parking garages? like where to put them? coz no sim is using the parking garages in my city...

and also, i hv the small airport, but when i check the info of the airport, the usage figure is zero...does that mean no sim is using the airport again? but i've had roads connected to it, and it has full efficiency...

thx 4 any help~~43.gif

First of all: parking garages.

My parking garages generally seem to be feast or famine. Mostly famine. In my entire region, I have about two parking garages that actually get used. The rest, nothing. Pretty bad, actually.

Secondly: airport.

Yes, if your usage is zero, then nobody's using it. Can't imagine why though. You're absolutely sure you have full connections? Hmmm, very odd...

I think parking garages should be in the residential zone, close to other transit stations, bus, subway, and train.  The wealth levels factor into the usage, I have had them full by rail stations connecting neighboring cities.

EDIT:  Put the garages in early in the city development, so the sims get used to using them.

Airports are use by commercial traffic comming into the city.  It sometimes takes awhile to get going, just like some of the other transits.  When you first load a city the airport will show zero usage for a short time.  If after time there is still no usage then I think something is amiss.

Thx for the advices...and now i've surrounded the airport w/ roads so now ppl are using it~~

Another Qs...how do u keep the commute time as low for R$$$? as now my city is growing and tall buildings starts to grow...but shortly after my sims dump the buildings due to long commute time or sth...is it bcoz R$$$ doesn't take mass transit and only like to drive? coz i've got subway and bus stations right opposite those buildings...

and i've just built highway too...but still it says long commute time

For the airport, make sure that you keep space around it.  Don't build buildings right up to ... or if you, keep 'em small.

Best way to lower your commute time is to spread everything around. Don't have all your residents in one section and all the jobs in another. You can only get away with that on small maps.

The best examples I have seen is where you have a 6x6 commercial area surrounded by 6x6 residential areas. If you hate the grid look, mix it up a bit, but keep the general idea in mind. Small commercial area surrounded by residential area.

I think I understand your problem.

With large buildings, since there are a large number of residents, once it develops, it puts (sometimes) 1000+ more people onto the connecting road. Now, this would normally put the road into the red, drastically increasing commute time. For best results with tall buildings, user an avenue or one-way street connecting.

What I would do with parking garages is put them nnear major roads where you want people to use your transit systems. If your mass transit system is more convenient than driving, they'll use it. One other thing, railroad stations have there own parking lots. Now your airport problem; either a) You built the airport too early,b)Your roads arent big enough, or c) Im not sure about this, but, your airport is too small to support businesses.

For your second question, High-Wealth people rather drive then commute. try directing them in different directions.
