Low/Negative RCI Demand

I have a region of about 300,000, the main city having 82,000.  All across the region, out of nowhere, the RCI demand has gone down the toilet and quick.  Once in a while, the demand is positive enough so that I can zone a 6x6 block of res or com, unfortunately it takes forever to develop if at all.

I played my city of 82,000 for 90 min last night, and the pop stayed the same for the entire time, as did the low/negative demand.

I am nowhere near any demand caps, and condtions are right in the city (low polluiton, traffic, crime and hi education, health and desirability)

I am at a loss as to what to do, it is kind of boring to play when all I can do is watch my cities stagnate!

Any help anyone can offer is greatly appreciated, please ask if more info is needed to better help me out.  Thanks!

Landmarks, and airports will help.  I find sometimes I just need to add some zones of different kinds.  Rewards will some times do the trick.  I don't think there is a stock answer for all situations.

Go to the Modding Files section, left side of the page, bottom link. the super demand modd found on there works quite well, if you dont mind the game being somewhat unrealistic.

I assume you have checked your taxes. The tax rate that is considered neutral falls as your city grows, so while you can have a higher tax rate at the start with no problems, if you keep that rate static, it may stifle growth many years down the track.

I'm curious as to how you were able to determine that you are not near any demand caps (or are the RCI indicators all strongly negative?).I use so many parks and connections in my cities that it is impossible to tell what the current demand cap is until all the demand bars go flat. Or do you have a mod that tells you what they are? If so I would find it very useful.

I know how frustrating it is to get a city to this point. It can be very difficult to determine what is stopping the growth. Usually its something small and easy to overlook. In my latest city all I had to do was add another bus stop next to an overcrowded one and the city took off again. A commute time problem I guess, but it took me a couple of days to figure it out.

I have the RCI query mod (search the STEX for query) and it tells me I have fulfilled 5-15% of my demand caps.  Not to mention, the res and com demand bars are strongly negative, more so the res one.

I guess I will play it tonight and fiddle around with some stuff and see what happens, the bad thing is, since the demand has been crap for so long, I have very little money to fiddle around with.

    Thanks for the help guys.

You know, I once had a city go into serious depression and I couldn't figure it out for a while. Turns out a garbage deal with a neighbor had somehow gotten cancelled and garbage was piling up in the city.

You probably don't have the same problem, but you did say you saw a rapid decline.
