Cheap & fun way to clear development

I was in desperate need of mass transit as some of my large residential buildings were becoming abandoned due to commute time. I wanted to put in a highway, among other things.

Then, I had a brilliant idea which may or may not have been thought of before (too lazy to search).37.gif

I used my tank (needs the military base) and drove to the abandoned high rises, then fired away.

Why explode/bulldoze a building for sometimes thousands of dollars when if you just shell it with a tank, all you have to pay is a pittance for clearing the rubble. 44.gif

Sweeeeet ;o) Besides, blowing stuff up is fun. So, if you have a big stadium that you don't want there anymore, just bust out your tank.. heheheheh29.gif

I not quite sure about this, but I think the tank's missle might cause some radiation problems.  I can't remember if it does or not.  Another thing, what do you do if another building blows up because you misfired?  You could be in a fair amount of trouble then!

Shells made out of depleted uranium.. but in real life you'd have to fire them in such large amounts that itd have to be a warzone before your people had to worry about radiation issues.
as for the game Ive gone on a few rampages but never noticed any level of radiation from them or my choppers.

I prefer to use god mode tools glitch, and a small shift of the soften tool on the terrain will destroy the buildings within the circle. 1.gif

I keep seeing mention of folks using god mode or money cheats. It cheapens the game for me. In my eyes half the fun is working within budget to start from scratch, and seeing my cities evolve and grow over time.

This even includes altering terrain, by the time I want to do such things I've usually got a few mill lying around with nothing useful to spend it on. If it were possible in the game my sims would no doubt complain when I went crazy with my Plant trees in every available location initiative.

Of course, in my recent game, I developed a region specifically for landfills and powerplants for my more 'utopian' cities. They've got a pop of about 1,000 who all work for waste management or the power company. 44.gif

No that way dosnt work. You still have to clean up after the mess and that cost money.

I've found that sometimes the missles from tanks go through my buildins, which sucks, so im not to crazy about that method,  besides, i prefer to just plan ahead, build the highways first 2.gif

I am a newbie to the game (couple weeks), so yah, I'm going to be more careful now. I seem to have most everything else down except for transportation. Getting and keeping positive cash, raising standards of living, no problem.

I'm going to start a new region and plan it more as a whole so cities will integrate better.

I echo sentiments against cheating of any kind. While this is borderline, in some countries you never quite know what the military & government is going to do, even to it's own people (e.g. Iraq, Germany, Argentina to name a few).

The only cheats I'd consider using are things like the hellomynameis cheat to change the mayor name. That doesn't really affect game play, so I figure it's ok. Besides, how long can one mayor live, really?

I haven't played in a while, so don't hold me to this, but I think I used to torch buildings with the Fire tool (11.gif), and merely contain the fire to those buildings to the best of my ability.
