Welcome to Azovia

Following the untimely demise of my first CJ Austerlitz due to a hard drive crash I am trying again with Azovia. Since Austerlitz died I have been on a downloading spree and my plugin folder rivals Imelda Marcos's shoe cabinet in its heyday. You can expect to see something from just about everyone of the superbly talented contributors to the STEX.

My thanks go out to them all once again, as I am sure we'd all agree, the game would be only a fraction as enjoyable without their efforts. I will, of course, try to credit every custom item on view, but if I miss one (and if I do it will be completely unintentional), please point it out so proper credit can be given where it is richly deserved.

As anyone who read Austerlitz will know..I like right angles and sharp edges. I suppose I still pine for the cities of SC3000 and in relative terms that makes me kinda retro !  With this in mind, you'll notice there's plenty of symetry involved in what I do, so lovers of natural landscapes should look away now.

I have formed the coastline and main canal in the first city of the region using the method I described in my tutorial Sharp as a Razor Rivers . Take a look if you want to familiarise yourself with the theory, but I think you'll get the idea from these screen shots. One little bonus I discovered while doing this was that I was able to sketch out the landscape I wanted using roads and then by switching between God & Mayor Mode, I was able to carve the outline exactly as I wanted it (give or take the odd amendment which we're all prone to).

As you can see, I have cut pretty deep into the outline in order to get the effect I want. If any of you decide to use this method, take into consideration any subway links you might want across the water...digging deep makes the terrain too steep so you'll have to leave shallower areas for your subway to navigate.

So there you have it, angular just the way I like it. Incidentally the above pic shows the Marina to the left and Seaport to the right, complete with breakwaters. The sqaure that sticks out from the Seaport breakwater will be where the lighthouse will go. You'll note the width of the breakwaters has been made intentionally larger than you would think. This is to take into consideration the laying of jeronij's seawalls v4 on both and an access road in the centre for the Seaport BW.

So I've now named our first city Saltergate, so named after the engineer responsible for the entrance to the city which has been proudly named Salter's Gate:

I've also started to add Marrast's embankments to the main canal and to lay the bridges which will link the two halves of the city.

Its a shame about the gaps in the embankment set where we come to the bridges. Marrast has kindly built two underbridge sections but they range to a maximum tile length of 3 and I need 4 ! 8.gif I'd be able to bridge the gap..pardon the pun...if I could reverse the sections so adding one from each side, but alas I have not figured out how to do it as yet.

I have also provided our sims with a complete end to end canal walk, thanks mainly to Marrast, jeronij and siqueira_scb. These car crazy sims can now park and walk, although I have a feeling they will do neither in game play 32.gif.

So finally, here's a zoomed out pic of what I've managed todate (I actually finished all the bridges after I took this pic, so a bit of false advertising with that statement).

Not sure if I'll get a chance to update this side of the Christmas, so just in case I don't...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all !!!!

Not a bad start at this second attempt.I too long for longer marrest embankments under the bridges.I think it hurt alot of my city designs and especailly my navy when I couldn't find the right sized peices for the job.Other then that.I like how you traced the area where the land and water would meet and the walking paths are pretty original.Overall I'd give this a B-,but I know you got much more waiting for us....

    Keep it up!29.gif44.gif
