who might want to vote with their feet.

Not only if The Donald pulls it off, but what about Republicans seeking shelter in any case?  A Democratic win might push some away from the nanny state.

Why Canada? Good for him to offer but no thanks.

Romance languages sound better, as does a nice casa with fresh primavera air. ¡Ciao!

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Why Canada?  Well, if you don't have any foreign languages, General Canadian sounds much like General American and you can be understood here.  After the culture shock of moving from the chaotic nanny state to a social democratic state, life just goes on.

Now mind you, I wouldn't mind a little villa in Fiesole* myself.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    * Fiesole - A suburb of Firenze (Florence, Italy).  The food is reputed to be fantastic, and norther Italy puts you close to the Alps and the rest of Europe, to say nothing of being soaked in the history of western civilization (if we can call it that).

Buon giurno, Marco.  Spero che la vostra signoria e ben?

I'm sure Cape Breton Island is beautiful (wouldn't mind getting up there, PEI or more of Maine for that matter some day) but from what I've gleaned it has a declining population due in part to a loss of its historic mining industry - so to utter a campaign slogan of my own, "where are the jobs?"  Yeah, I get that it was created as a bit of a tongue-in-cheek gesture and the whole jobs vs. population thing is a chicken and egg problem in and of itself.  I've spent most of my life in a depressed area that was too busy feeling sorry for itself to do anything about it - until only very recently as things really have seemed to [finally] turn a corner.  Doesn't hurt to try, I guess.

As a side note, it's a bit of a shortcoming of, well I guess you would say northern North American economics that we haven't been able to figure out how to have a decent economy without [often unsustainable] growth.  (I don't want to blame capitalism per se because I believe there are capitalist areas that have been able to manage well enough - not to mention other philosophies which have led to hell in a handbasket regardless of population trends.)

Now, if that proposal to hand the Turks & Caicos over to Canada ever comes back and comes to fruition...

Looked into that, certainly interesting, though predictably, the Canadians worry about what to do with the 50,000 inhabitants that would apparently 'immigrate' (although 'move would be the correct word then...) in an instant...

Probably more than enough pensioners that would be more than happy to live the rest of their lives in the Caribbean though -- a Canadian Spain or Florida. France already has Guadeloupe as a little piece of Europe (and the EU) over there (nice one Sweden, duh).

Besides if 'moving because I don't like Donald Trump' actually were to happen I'd much rather go to the sun. Now moving because I don't like Bernie Sanders... where would I go? A ranch in Oregon?

An influx of population from the U.S. to Cape Breton would probably include enough entrepreneurs that jobs would not be a real problem.  I don't think coal mines closing on the east coast is necessarily a bad thing.

And think of the opportunity to have a vacation in Metropolitan France.  A ferry hop over to Corner Brook, another to Fortune, and then the ferry to St. Pierre.  Voilà, bienvenue à la Belle France.

How many knew that there was a Department of Metropolitan France in the Gulf of St. Lawrence?

St Pierre et Miquelon is a COM (overseas collectivity) and therefore a little less French than they ideally should be. Metropolitan France, however, is only in Europe -- St Pierre is  d'outre-mer.

The Official Cape Breton Tourist Agency adds some punch.

It is not hard to start up a new business in Canada, so entrepreneurs seeking to be free from the U.S. nanny state might want to take a hard look.

It's rather easy to start a new business in Mexico. As long as nothing illegal is done at the business, you can easily pay a small fee up front to streamline bureaucracy through a fast track. Speeding tickets can also be paid up front, and you won't need to go to court to contest them if you do so. ;)

Bribery is not condoned in Canada.

    CNN?!

This should be interesting coverage.  What is CNN's axe to grind with The Donald?  Does he own them?

Wouldn't surprise me if he and Ted Turner don't get along.  It's a sad state of affairs when TT is looking like the voice of reason.

(Not that I necessarily dislike him or anything; I've always just seen him as a bit of a...bumbler.  As media moguls go he's still got to be one of the more sane ones.  Not to mention more successful at running a sports franchise than some others as well.)
