You can make BATs in regular GMax, but you won't be able to export them without the BAT plugin, because the BAT plugin is the renderer/exporter. Without the BAT, you can't BAT. If you post a picture of the error message (select the error message window, press alt+print scrn, use ctrl+v to paste it into Paint, save the image and post it here) someone might be able to help you fix what is wrong.

You might be able find someone to help you export/render a model made in GMax.1.gif

You have to not only install gmax but initialize it. Just run it and it will set up the environmental variables you need. For Linux users, it may be necessary to add these to your user .profile in order to keep them when you log out.

After running gmax, you should be able to install the BAT.

And, aside, when you install a program, are you not curious enough to run it, just to see if everything is OK? gmax has a very interesting tutorial on making an animated object that is worth running as a familiarization cruise.

Be sure to run the BAT ESSENTIALS tutorial from the Omnibus as well. It contains a lot of information, especially on creating a lot that will light up at night.
