I like to use interesting or beautiful girl names, or names of cities/worlds from games. My current region is called Arcadia (from the RPG Skies of Arcadia, coincidentaly its a town here in Florida). Adrianna City, Angela City, anything that sounds nice. Try using names of past loves 3.gif

Cities are usually named after the first settlers there. Where I live (NZ) the city is called Christchurch, named after a city in England where the first settlers came from. A city to the south is called Timaru which means 'land of cabbage trees' in Maori and a city further south is called Dunedin which means 'Edinburgh on the hill' in scottish, the first settlers in the city were scottish. More cities and towns in the north island are named in Maori, the first settlers in New Zealand. I hope this helped someone.

one idea is to take a city's meaning, and change it, before putting it back

I've started naming cities after cool streets around town. Colfax, Campbell, Second, etc.

I look up county names on wikipedia...such as Pasquotank, Isle of Wight, Chesterfield, Brunswick etc...I find it easier than racking my brain for cool sounding names.

i commonly name my cities after areas around were i live or after street names around me. i also use names of the countys around me. if i hear something that sounds good that could be a city name i'll also use that. another thing i'll do is name it after some geographical feature in the city.

I love Scottish Single Malt Whisky, so tend to get inspiration from the names the distilleries come up with and mix it with words like valley, bay, town, etc I use the website http://www.scotchwhisky.net/malt/single1.htm to get the names of the whisky or look at my drinks cabinet.

When I run out of whisky, I'm thinking of using Scots gaelic and teeing it up with some of my favourite sounding words e.g. Inversmeegil (Inver meaing 'river mouth' and Smeagol (Gollum) from lord of the rings)

Some of the names used so far...

Talisker Old Town

Drambuie Heights

Old Puteney

Glenlivet Bay

Highland Park

Isle of Jura

Laphroaig Valley

also, I recently went to San Diego and loved the place. They served really yummy bagels in the hotel, so I decided to name a city 'San Bagel' (sad, i know lol)

I am a little less original than all of you. I use city names like ResCom 01, ResCom 02, ResCom 03, Dirty 01, Dirty 02, Dirty 03, HiTech 01, HiTech 02, HiTech 03, Agri 01, Agri 02, etc, etc... I know this is probably boring, but it really helps me out when I am looking at the regional view for planning, and organization, etc... 4.gif
