Welcome to The City of Barcelli

                                        In Rittenburg

Population: 134,765
Date:  23, June 28

Since the City is only 28 years old, it is still under major construction.  Every aspect of its growth is being determined and examined.  Each developer must submit plans ahead of time and gain approval from its citizens before construction can begin.  This in its right mind keeps Barcelli a city of the people.

Since Barcelli has gotten off to a good start, the citizens are now starting to wonder what can be improved or changed; So they have come to vist the people of Simtropolis to gain thier opinion of thier fine city.

Please Enjoy as we give you this tour of Barcelli -

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Old%20City%20View.jpg align=baseline>
Northeast view of Barcelli.  Here you can see the entire City and what it has to offer.  In the middle you can see the downtown of Barcelli.  Lets try to get a little closer...

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Downtown%20-%20Day.jpg align=baseline>
Ah, well this is much nicer.  Here we have the central view of Barcelli.  In the foreground you can see the river winding through the city as well as Barcelli' many bridges.  Since there are strict guidelines for what gets built many of Barcelli' lots are vaccant.  However, there are many proposals on the drawing board.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Berwell%20Station.jpg align=baseline>
Next up, Berwell Station in the center of Downtown.  The Berwell Station was built about 10 years ago.  The city planning team decided early on that mass transit was a must in order for a bright future.  The building was chosen to fit its old world charm in with a modern day city.  Lets hop on board...

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Industrial%20Area.jpg align=baseline>
Here we are in the most famous part of town.  Barcelli' Industrial Center.  Only High-Tech Industry is allowed within the city limits of Barcelli.  Shall we continue...

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Hall.jpg align=baseline>
With a hop on a bus we're back in downtown Barcelli.  Here is the City Hall on the famous City Mall.  The Mall has not undergone much change from when Barcelli started out, because the city planners can not agree upon a design.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Olde%20Town.jpg align=baseline>
Next we have Barcelli' Olde Town.  Here are some historic buildings from the early stages of the cities growth.  The tower that you see is the Barcelli Campinelle... let those bells ring!

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Old%20Riverfront.jpg align=baseline>
Need a walk on Sunday?  How about you visit our wonderful Riverfront.  Close to shops and restaurants.  Wish to live downtown... well we already have Condominiums for sale, and within the next couple of years we should have dozens more.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Barcelli%20Riverfront%20Park.jpg align=baseline>
A little drive from downtown Barcelli will get you to this amazing Riverfront Park.  You can capture views of downtown or just sit with your family and enjoy a pieceful picnic.  Next stop, our famous Radcliffe University.
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Radcliffe%20University.jpg align=baseline>
In the past 5 years Radcliffe University has been growing.  We have the University Medical Center, Radcliffe Library, Disease Research Center, and the world renouned Research Center.  With only 20 years under its belt, Radcliffe University has begun a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//St.%20Pauls%20Cathedral.jpg align=baseline>
Only a few blocks from Radcliffe Unversity is the most famous St. Pauls Cathedral.  Barcelli thought it best to capture its roots, and in doing so they copied an exact replica of St. Pauls.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Montgomery%20Park.jpg align=baseline>
Montgomery Park, named after The Govenor of Rittenburg.  The park is on the West Bank of the river, and sits as it was 28 years ago.  There are proposals of adding more parks within the area, however, Actavists are wanting the city to leave it alone.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Neighborhood%201.jpg align=baseline>
Ah, here we are.  One of our Neighborhoods.  Only a block away from Montgomery Park this neighborhood was the first to be constructed.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Neighborhood%202.jpg align=baseline>
In Northwest Barcelli developers created what we call the community plan.  The boulevards are lined with trees while everything is within a walk away.  The design for this nieghbordhood is mainly old-fashioned; however, coincidenly, the neighborhood didn't start growing until about a year ago.

From here lets hop on a bus and take a nice drive out into the country.
<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Distance%20from%20BtoR.jpg align=baseline>
Rivendale is only about a 15 minute drive from Downtown Barcelli, it is considered home away from home.  This small town will one day be part of Barcelli.
Rivendale%20-%20Suburb.jpg
Here is a closer look at Rivendale.  Back into town we go.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Vallai%20Station.jpg align=baseline>
Here we arrive at Vallai Station.  Completed only last month, this station is a sign for the future.  It will make sure that traffic stays low and continues to flow.

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Traffic%20Map.jpg align=baseline>
Here is a the traffic situation in Barcelli at this very moment.  It all looks good so far!

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Transportation%20View.jpg align=baseline>
And here is another view of our wonderful transportation system here in Barcelli.  We thank our great city planners for looking towards the future!

Well as night approaches I would like to thank you for visiting with us today.  I hope you will leave your thoughts and comments with us.  The people of Barcelli eagerly await your replies!

    This all looks very good, and I like the way you began with a long update rather than a city seal or a flag or even much of an introduction. Got us right into the action. Good luck.

    I like the street layout and the fact that you didn't go all anti-grid like so many people like to, and that you extended the grid out into undeveloped areas for future development, as often happens in real cities where there is still a lot of undeveloped land, especially in the central and western U.S.

    Well Im from Omaha, NE and the city is mostly a grid pattern; however, there are some little stray-aways from it.  I like my cities to look natural and close to realism as possible.

    I've read about grid systems on here, and see that many people think that they look quite ugly, however, as I show, its not entirely the case.  But that opinion is each his/her own. 1.gif

    Lol, yes its Dirk!  Anyhow, I will be playing the game tonight, so there might be a couple updates coming within the next couple of days.  It just all depends on how things go.  The city on my computer runs about a day per second, so it takes a while.  But, Im still working at it!

    As promised, heres an update!

    Population:  201,932
    Date:  10 September 45

    Interesting Info:  Commuite Time is about 33 Siminutes
                              About 58,000 people walk

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Downtown%20Barcelli%20-%20Day.jpg align=baseline>
    Since you last saw it, Downtown Barcelli has emerged as a great Banking City.  The tallest tower in Barcelli at the moment is the Barcelli National Bank Plaza.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//New%20Downtown.jpg align=baseline>
    Since the begining, the City Planners believed that Barcelli' Downtown area would grow to the North.  As was planned, it did.  Still in the newest stages, this area is sure to grow rapidly.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Riverfront1.jpg align=baseline>
    The Riverfront has also had dramatic changes.  New Condo Buildings have gone up, new Entertainment Venues have gone in, Parks have been built, and more is planned for the Future.  On the West side of the River, the same has been done.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Riverfront%202.jpg align=baseline>

    The people of Barcelli are in need of your help with this next one.  As the city has expanded, there was a demand for an Arena.  Some old Industrial buildings on the East side of Downtown were demolished and a new Arena was built.  The land around the new Arena is still vaccant and is awaiting a new use.  The people have spoken and said they want a pleasing Civic Center with Parks.  The City Planners have agreed and have allowed the roads to be moved ifs the proposals call for it.

    However, the City Planners also gave a couple of demands to those developers.
    1.  They must include park space
    2.  They must include some sort of commercial development
    3.  They must include some sort of medium residential development.

    With those demands in mind... give ideas of how to develop this area.  Below is a picture of the Arena and surrounding areas.  The people of Barcelli need you!
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Arena.jpg align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//NE%20Shopping%20Center.jpg align=baseline>
    Here you can see the Northeast Shopping Center and a Gated Residential Neighborhood.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Rivendale.jpg align=baseline>
    Remember Rivendale?  Well now its not that far from Barcelli.  Its growth within the past 5 years has sparked a need for a town Center.  Here is Rivendale's Central District.

    Developers in Barcelli thought that a new area somewhere around the city that included a lake would be a great selling spot for the city.  They City Planners couldn't agree more.  So, the plans for a new Lakefront Community passed within a matter of hours - and construction was on its way.  A year later... and well... see for yourself!
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Lake%20Rivendale.jpg align=baseline>
    Lake Rivendale was built to the East of Rivendale.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Mayors%20Home.jpg align=baseline>
    The success with the new lake development went so well, the people of Barcelli granted the Mayor a new Riverfront Home.  Payed for by Private Donations.  In response to the new Home, the Mayor reduced taxes to about 7%

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//SW%20Industrial%20Park.jpg align=baseline>
    The City Planners had an idea that the city was growing to the Southwest, how quickly they failed to see.  Once they caught up, they decided it would be best to zone new industrial land.  A year later, the Southwest Industrial Park was born.  Once built, it filled with new businesses.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//SW%20Area.jpg align=baseline>
    In response to the Industrial groth to the south, families started to sprout.  Developers quickly sought the chance to build a new shopping center, located only blocks to the West of Radcliffe University.  Gartel Station was then built to accomodate a quick route to downtown Barcelli.

    A couple years later, Radcliffe University built the Mitchell Building to house thier administrative offices.  Once finished, the Dean decided it was time to build a Stadium.  The Board of Directors at the University sought land within the Universities Land.  When they sound that there was really no place to put it within its boundries they looked at outlying land around the Univeristy.  Four blocks from the University a site was found.  They bought the land, and construction began.  Just a year later, and the new Radcliffe Stadium was finished.

    In the year 38, the City Planners started to notice that the daily Rush Hour, took over 60 Simintues to travel.  A meeting was then planned to discuss what could be done to lower the commute time.  The planning was critical as there were buildings being abandoned due to long commute times.  People just didn't want to drive a Simour.  So to the demands of the people, the City Planners developed a Subway System that would reach as far out as Montgomery Park where traffic needed to get Downtown the quickest.  When built... people were astonished at how big the Subway System was.  The City Planners answer to that was... Can Anyone Say, 'Mass Transit?
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Subway%20System.jpg align=baseline>
    Well as you can see, it sure is Huge.  But the question remained if it actually worked?!  To prove that it did,  City Hall bought us maps that showed its volume.  They also brought us the Roadway Traffic Volume Map and the City Transportation Map.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Subway%20Volume.jpg align=baseline>
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Traffic%20Volume.jpg align=baseline>
    As you can see the greatest amount of traffic is that to the West of the River and Downtown.
    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Transportation%20Map.jpg align=baseline>

    Here is the Great City of Barcelli and its Suburb of Rivendale.

    Actually yes, there are quite a few.  And possibly if one submits plans for a club... Barcelli might just get one of those soon!

    jacqulina:  Thank You!  Yes, I am very detail oriented.  Perfectionist as you might say.

    To All:  Thank You for the comments.  I really do appricate them - as there really haven't been that many.  This is my first actual real contribution to Simtropolis.  And so, Im kinda new at this whole Journal thing.  However, I am very glad people love my city.  Ive wanted to put some of my other work on here, but wasn't sure quite how to do it... but I figured it out!

    Again Thank You for your comments!

    Im not sure yet, but there might be an update before Christmas... however, I have to help Bake... so that might alter my plans.

    Very cool city, I like the way some parts of the city have grid like streets but not every where.  Pretty realistic, show more pics, please.
