G'day, I'm not really new here, but I thought finally I'd try my luck at CJ-ing at ST3.gif.

maintitle1pd.jpg

Well, first off, Welcome to Newcastle, a city in New England, a state separated from the Australian State of New South Wales.

newenglandflag6yw.jpg

First and foremost, this is the State of New England flag... it's just the Union Jack and a New South Wales coat of arms someone made on another forum. It follows the conventions of the Australian Commonwealth and the States. 3.gif

When I can be bothered I'll get a region view...

So here's the start of Update One.

title1mx.jpg

The suburb of Mourningvale, although the first place to be settled in Newcastle after the Battle of State Independence ruined the town after a bunch of big HUGE cardboard boxes ran through the town and crushed everything even the Box Factory! OH, THE HUMANITY! Anyway, it's be 144 years since the old City of Newcastle was crushed and the suburb of Mourningvale has been reborn with 11,383 residents within it's borders. Here's an overview.

015gq.jpg

The Northern region is known to locals as Mourningvale proper. While the Southbank is known as Woodington, after Sir Patrick Woodington, the first Premier of New England. The two Freeways in the city are called Henry Parkes Memorial Freeway (F-81) [leads out to the West] and the Gareth Williams Freeway (F-1) [leads North].

Dostoyevsky Estate, Ipanema Estate, Singhen Lakes Estate

026bu.jpg

Pretty names for a formerly ugly area 3.gif Now this area of middle class homes, the Royal College of Surgeons, and small business is booming as the most exclusive area to live after the Bridges area. Nothing much is known here other than its previous history where there was much decadence! A rich person's dream. That was until the un-cool people came along with their boring ways and ruined it all. Damn them!

Woodington Central

31nx.jpg

Woodington Central is a nice affluent area where, by law, the Welsh are banned because they are plain and boring 3.gif. All the good stuff here, you'd be lucky if you didn't find a $100 note just lying on the floor since the people around here are so careless with their money. Sigh. Anyway, Woodington Central has it all, banks, upscale chain stores, maybe even a hardware store. Other than that an interesting feature is the Gareth Williams Memorial Bridge [affectionately know to locals as the Princess Gareth Bridge] after a Welsh person that is said to roam the streets at nice in a frock. No one knows why. 3.gif. There's a statue on him on the Southbound side of the bridge. Another point of interest is the Bridges Point area on the Mourningvale side, it's a nice area and was the 2nd place settled after the cardboard boxes killed everyone.

Tesla Lake

046gx.jpg

Tesla Lake, named after the Tesla Coils found in Command & Conquer's Red Alert & Red Alert 2. [Good old games btw] and indirectly named after Serbian born electricity person, Nikolai Tesla. Although, it's mainly after the Tesla Coils, now weren't they the coolest 9.gif. Anyway, another semi-exclusive neighbourhood, nothing too hot, just a big lake with electric eels in it, shocking everything. It is said that to keep young you need to swim to the centre and touch the electrical cords in the centre... but this isn't recommended since uh... they are live wires and you're going to die if you touch them. 3.gif. At the left of the picture you can see Maestro Bridge, the 2nd Tolled Crossing in Newcastle.

Lansing Manor

057hn.jpg

Nothing important here other than the huge grounds of Lansing Manor owned by Emperor of Real Estate across the planet, Daniel Henderson, owner of Real Estate conglomerates, Dynasty Real Estate and Newenham Development Inc. Big lands and his own private island this weenie of a person better be happy with what he's got. He seems to have lots of fun frollicking around on the island and is said to be thinking of taking over the State Rail Company, SouthRail. 3.gif

Mourningvale Central, Bangor Fawr Manor

064rq.jpg

Sigh. Another place ruined by the un-cool boring people 7.gif Anyway, nice middle class stores selling plain boring things at moderate prices. However their leader Gareth Williams lives in Bangor Fawr Manor with his tennis courts and private Lake. He is the envy of the Welsh in Mourningvale even if it is thought he likes to wear his frocks at night .

I hope you guys like Newcastle!

And as they say on Beverley Hillbillies, Y'all come back now y'here!

There will be more to come if I get a good response here 5.gif

That looks really great! I really like the street layouts and the clusters of commerce that seem to congregate at the freeway exits. And a bit of interesting commentaries to go along with those pictures. 10.gif

Your presentation is very good, especially with the borders, crests and headings. The commentary adds flavor to what might be considered run-of-the-mill screen shots---except that your use of trees and water is very good.

I'll keep my eye on this one!

Your use of plopped water is very tasteful and well planned, especially as it complements your freeway interchange. Other than that, this CJ looks very good. I like your little touch of alternate history without inundating your CJ with it, and the local touches provide valuable character. Nice job.

I really like how the freeways in this city weave their way thru the residental areas and I love the 2 T interchanges and the overpass with the lake in the middle. It looks very, very nice. And there is something about the pictures. As with these and other pictures in some other CJ's Adobe Photoshop just makes them look much, much better for some reason. It's strange. I would love my photos in my CJ to look as good as these. If anyone knows how, please tell me.

This looks like it's going to turn out into a really nice City Journal. Keep it up!

And er, I'm reading some of the replies and this is a fictional creation and is not real! Newcastle is still a real town just north of Sydney in New South Wales in Australia. 1.gif

Whoa, I really didn't expect so many comments first go! I should reply to them more often 48.gif

oroen: Thanks! I tend to put interesting commentaries with my pictures because it seems to always spramp up the most boring scenes. I could take a picture of a bunch of boring old farms and just say that... I don't know, one of the old cows was the President of Antarctica? 3.gif
Nexis: Thanks but, this isn't a real world creation, nope, I'm just using the region to make a new-Newcastle on 3.gif
louisville327: Thanks for the comments! And you'll always be welcome here.
    Shadow of Death: Thanks!
GingerBlokey: Thanks, I do my best 19.gif
    superchad: Thanks!
    E-Pexe: Uh... thank you, E-pexe. 3.gif
toxicpiano: Oh, I wouldn't know about Chavs, I don't actually live anywhere near Newcastle, I live in Melbourne about 1000km away 3.gif Melbourne's a great city, best in Australian even 9.gif
Equilibria: Thanks for the generous commentation, I try to make my CJs unique and all of the things you said are some things that contribute 3.gif
lakeyboy: Thanks! I wish I could help you too, I am pretty hopeless with Photoshop, luckily I have a friend on hand to help 9.gif
pipishere: Thanks! I try to make my cities great places to live 3.gif
    jacqulina: Thanks!

I will be hoping to get an update by Thursday, if not by Tuesday, so come back then!

I assume you're using the Newcastle map?

You've done an amazing job so far. For the record, the real Newcastle is more run-down. It really doesn't deserve to be that way, but in the middle of the 20th century, the city was in decline, and the buildings haven't quite recovered.

In the real world, I believe Newcastle is the country's largest coal port, probably closely followed by Wollongong. Extensive coalfields lay to the west of the city.

Oh, and I know that you're not recreating the real place (feels more like parts of Sydney, to be honest, what with the clusters of commerce as explained by a fellow SimTropolite).

Just thought you'd want to know a little about the place (I don't know much, but I have seen the place in a brief stopover on a roadtrip up north to the Gold Coast).
