Problem with graphics on new PC

Hi you all,

 

I'm back again trying to play SC4 and I will probably also be doing a CJ. I bought CS and played it for a couple hundred hours and really enjoyed it but now I'm wanting to play SC4 again due to CS obvious limitations in size and beauty.

 

I've upgraded my pc ( 8 core AMD with AMD 7950 card, 8gb ram) last year and installed SC4 on it but there are a few problems that are occurring that make playing the game a lot less fun. First problem is when I hold the right mouse button to scroll around the map, all buildings and props etc disappear until I release the button, takes a little while for it to come back, gets me out of the moment. Also, there are big "lines" all over the map through the city with no buildings or props, and when I hold the right mouse button and release it again those lines are not where they were before but somewhere else.

 

All other old and new games work fine.

 

I've never had this problem on my old laptop from 2009 where I played the game on for the last 6 years. Any ideas what might be causing this?

It wouldn't matter if you had 16 cores since SC4 is single threaded and crashes pretty quickly if you try to multitask it.

 

Your scrolling difficulty is the fact that your in-use plugins are all accessed when you scroll and you have the associated delays with disk access.  The only way out of that one is an SSD to contain your plugins.  You might gain a little speed by making sure your plugins directory is defragmented and/or by compressing your plugins using one of the after market plugin shrinkers such as Files2DAT.

 

Make sure you let your operating system know about the single threading by using the -cpucount:1 command line option.

 

The best way to move to a new location on screen is a single right-click at the desired location.

Strange thing is that with the same plug in folder, I didn't have the problem on my old laptop. Yes, I always make sure the game runs on just one core, otherwise it will just CTD all the time. Are the strange "lines" of nothingness part of the problem?

It's nothing to do with disk accesses. Your HD 7950 is tripping the 7000 Series check.
