City of Shepton - Airport City - #2 - Small growth steps

Welcome to Shepton

#1 - From a small idea

So it's the year 1978, and the government of the Kingdom United, has finally received it's much awaited air transport report from the KUAA (Kingdom United Air Authority) advising that the airport of Rowheath serving the capital Londinium is reaching max capacity and advises 2 courses of possible action, a) expand the existing Rowheath (involves massive area buying and knocking down) or b) build a new airport....

Fast forward to the year 2000, after 22 years of infighting/no-decision/wasting tax payer money, between successive governments a young idealist comes up with a proposal.

Due to the budget cuts back in 1990, the great Shepton Army training area was closed down, leaving the vast 2x2x25 sq km area free of anything but the areas motorways (M25,M20 & M23) and the old Military housing blocks standing.

The Government being owners of said land, therefore commisioned a way forward and thus the idea of Shepton became. First up the old Military camp was renovated and brought upto living standards for the construction crews and a new motorway fork (M21) was constructed to serve this.

Renovated Military camp for housing the Airport workers and M21 in the forefront.

And after a few years of construction and logging, the new airport was opened:-

With expansion possibilities in the forest (and the commercial benefits the logging operation would provide) the Kingom United Government was happy.

The Massive construction & logging operation required had meant a dedicated rail cargo facility was built to handle the masses of material movements needed.

With future possible expansion plans for the airport this terminal would be left open to serve the logging industry over the river in Sheppey Woods:-

East Trumpet of the M25 is the M23

Of course after a few years of construction, the contractors had now created themselves a local community as shops and infrastructure was built to sustain this workforce:-

And thus the City Village of Shepton was born.......

    #2 - Small growth steps

So we left the village of Shepton in the early stages and over the next few months only a few things changed. The KU Government put into place basic services and a local Council was elected by the people.

It wasn't long before a busy high street was teeming with activity...

Looking West-East down the High Street

A new retail development that is always popular in the Kingdom United sprung up for the bored locals and instantly became a success, so much so that the new purpose built bus station couldn't cope with the influx of visitors:-

Busy Central Bus stop (shame they are all leaving....)

Press photos of the park the day before opening. I promise the place is alot busier since....

Now that the contractors had moved out, a tender was opened and the Old Military buildings were turned into a College for Gaming Studies run by a company called Paradox. We hear they have great plans to develop this area further.

And finally for this small update a keen local walker sent in this image of the view from Shepton Peak of the slowly growing village.

Just a note from me, I'm not the fastest developer in the world, taking more time thinking of what looks best before actually doing it. Was a massive fan of Cities XL (I know, I know...) and what can be done there, "city painting" more than city growing. So this likely won't be a fast Village to Metropolis Journal.

Also would be keen to hear of any good mods from a Photographic point of view, currently got First Person Camera & Dynamic Resolution installed but am keen to improve the photograhic side of things (ie cut out the blur). Perhaps its my hardware i5-4570s, 8GB, GTX760-2Gb but I don't think thats a major issue... Anyways all ideas appreciated.

Wow! That is quite an airport.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage
