First things first, hello guys! I thought about making a CJ that combines elements of older SimCity games to SC4. I'm not sure if it'll end up the way I like it, or whether it will end up feeling like the older SimCity games, but I'll try to do my best with it. Enjoy!

I used the map, but the starting town itself is modeled after SC2K's Dullsville.

There lies a town in the middle of SimNowhere, where its residents have been bored for years... too long for them to even bother counting. The location itself screamed development, and even 'metropolis.' There used to be a belief that this would be the next great city.

Mayor Defacto just didn't let them have their way.

For some reason, he just wouldn't let the town - now called Dullsville - grow. He was somehow content with just being... there. The citizens themselves managed to tire themselves out trying to convince Defacto... and the effect lingered. Even when he passed on and a certain Ian was elected mayor, there wasn't much cause for celebration. Everybody just seemed to be there, trudging along with the same old life. Even the Zeke family, the eccentrics in trailers who never seemed to run out of siblings, had a look of resignation on them.

Fortunately, Mayor Ian didn't want to be a Defacto.

And now here he is, with plans of his own - including renaming the area to Dullsville Flats. Could this be the start of great things in Dullsville? We'll find out.

Schulmanator - Thanks for the greetings!

It's a new, less dull day in Dullsville. Mayor Ian looked at his budget report...

Mayor Defacto might have left Dullsville stagnant, but somehow, the town made ends meet. Little by little, the city treasury grew. However, when he went to see the grim reaper, the simoleons remained. Rumor has it that he couldn't even be bothered to pass on a part of his fortune to his family. And so, Mayor Ian thought it would be nice to put some of this budget surplus to good use...

"Maybe it's time someone put up a school here... but there's something missing, something that will take the dull out of Dullsv-

DIAGONAL ROADS! Grid busting rocks... according to city blocks! Oh, and some gardens would be nice, too."

    And so, construction started.

He was too pleased with himself to notice that a small fire broke out in the industrial area...

But nobody seemed too interested and the fire put itself out, feeling rejected.

The industrial area was given a little diagonal make-over, and the new roads seemed ready for development.

The construction of better housing and a bit of city beautification sparked some interest, too.

Things are starting to look up for this town.

That's all for today. On another note, are there any good alternatives to the Open Paved Area? I don't like that it switches textures every now and then. I'll also get a fountain park and a pond park soon.

Hahaha, now that's what I call an interesting opening scenario. After all those high-tech CJs, this "dull" approach can really be a refreshing change of pace. "The fire put itself out, feeling rejected" - LOL. :D

As for your query concerning replacements for the open paved area, Soldyne's old may be worth looking into. Landmark and park effect are a bit high for my taste, but the lots sure look nice. There's also a second pack containing some diagonal lots. You may also find the SFBT Diagonal Fillers to be useful.

If you prefer a more neutral solution, you could use the Ped Mall tiles included in the NAM. The NAM is quite a recommendable mod anyway, and I really like to create plazas using the Ped Mall tiles and the SFBT diagonal fillers to conform to almost any shape.

Finally, I'm happy to see you are using the IRM. :golly: It sure feels great when you see that people actually use your stuff.
