Cities without industrial

In SimCity 4 and 2013, I would make cities with none to very little industry, just curious if this is possible in this game? Can offices and a highly educated workforce reduce the need for industry, or do the commercial zones always require it?

the commercial zones require goods, but you can import those. So yes, you can build cities with just offices, but it's smart to make sure to have a port or cargo station close to your commercials in that case.

To my mind industry in this game is a lot of fun and it's something I wouldn't want to miss out on because it plays such an important role in a city by providing goods that your citizens are going to be consuming.

In SC4 you could play literally without industry at all, because Civic buildings could provide a lot of jobs, and you could scale down the funding on civic buildings to get 'free jobs', which could sustain growth until commercial demand kicked in big time from education.

 

In Skylines you need to build industry at the start of a normal game, but can get rid of your industry once you have offices. Arguably it's easier to play without industry, as it is a big congestion generator and industry traffic congestion can't be solved by bus and metro, unlike that from offices.
