I've asked this over in Youtube with Haljackey doing his city from scratch again in Sim City Skylines. I want to know If I can purchase this game at the store like Walmart or Best Buy to name a few stores. It looks like fun building a skyline from scratch. I'm very much interested in playing this new sim city game.

First of all it's not "Sim City" anything as it's not part of the EA/Maxis franchise. It's Cities:Skylines and it's from the folks who made Cities in Motion.

Second, this is distributed only through Steam/Valve and requires at least an occasional internet connection. If you do find a box copy (and I'm not at all sure there is one), you'll have to register it through Steam anyhow. So might as well buy from Steam directly, or look for a deal (I bought my "copy" at Green Man Gaming for a few bucks less).

I bought a "box copy" the other day

But as you pointed out you still have to register through Steam

Yeah a lot of games are going that way in to be able to install / register / whatever you need to have steam or similar program to do it..

I already have steam downloaded, now I would love to download City Skylines. I think I'll have more fun with this version then sim city itself lol.

Would Steam allow me to order Cities Skyline by postal mail? If so, I would love to order the game so I can play it. I've been watching Haljackey's Building A Skyline from scratch. It's turning out to be a great skyline.

No, no snail mail. There are basically three methods:

    1) You buy the game directly in the Steam store, like directly from within the client software. You can pay with a credit card or, depending on your location, a few other methods.

    2) You buy a game key from some other online retailer, like Green Man Gaming or Gamersgate, also with a credit card or a service like PayPal, then take this key and add it in Steam's client software to your Steam account.

    3) You buy a boxed copy (not sure whether available everywhere), but still have to do the additional steps from point 2, which is entering the key in the Steam client.

Is it possible to play C:S without an internet connection? Can I launch Steam in "offline mode"?

Yes, all the time, mostly because my hours counter has been high enough for the word "addiction" to start being thrown around.

hahahha - I'm at about 120 hours and feel like I've barely scratched the surface; if 150 hours counts as addiction I dread to think what my 1500 hours in Civ 5 counts as... or 2500+ hours in Mass Effect 3 O_o

Thanks Turjan, I'm just waiting until I get paid i order to get the game. Until I purchase the game, I've been watching Haljackey's building a skyline from scratch and Skye Storm series as well. I've also been watching webgaming centeral's series as well. To get some tips on how & where to start my first city. I'm already loving the game even though I have yet to play it. I also already have plans to remove Sim City 2013 and maybe Sim City 4 from my computer to make room for the new game. Eventually I have to upgrade my computer again with more memory to it.
