Yeah I too have no problem with giving my files to anyone who can convert them for SC4. But then again this game already got thousands, if not ten-thousands of custom buildings for download. Do they really need more? :D

    ------------

Ohh I'm gonna spam the hell out of this work in progress :ohyes:

Before anyone asks, of course that's the detailed model which won't end up in the game!

nice buildings but why dont someone make a few of them 4 sim city 4 rush hour

Geez, Sim City 4 is more than 12 years old :D This game had died long ago if Maxis went on and developed an actual successor. As someone who never played SC4 (I was stuck with 3000), it is obvious that I won't release content for it :)

Some people asked me the same... I answered that I would gladly give them my files (in .obj or whatever format they'd want to use for import) and they could then easily use them. I even asked for SC4 batters to do the (easy) task in the SC4 batting forums... and I got zero replies. Yep, Zero !!

Always gotta look for the easy way out, those SC4 players....they're all practically senior citizens by now! :D

Hmm.. somehow I feel that "one week" was a little too optimistic...

Dude....what are you doing!? Teasing us with this beautifully detailed facade, only to have to take it away from us upon release? Pure evil

Yeah haha that's pretty sad, I know. But I will suffer the most, when I have to convert all of this into a small texture :( :D I'm really curious  what normal mapping can achieve on this one though. So far nearly all of my assets had a smooth facade, they are basically all-glass skyscrapers. Now it's the time to shine, Unity Engine!

We should spam the SC4 builder's forums asking them to convert their models for C:SL

When I get the game I'm going to give this a try, but I'm not expecting very good results. :/

    Give it a try...

    Get addicted...

    Build for it...

Yeaaaaaahhhh, we've got Jasoncw now :bunny:

I'll buy the game for you if you start pumping out quality buildings like you did for SC4 :thumb:

Nice! Very detailed, perhaps too detailed for CS?

This looks so incredibly good. Makes my current project look like a 5th grader did it :(

Never feel bad for something you made! We all started from zero once ;) And I'd really like to see what you're working on atm. I' always have some two cents of feedback for everyone.

Thanks though, I'm glad you like it! Modeling at this level of detail takes fairly long and having constand positive feedback does really help to stay motivated :) Now this is still a pretty small model of intermediate difficulcy, I will really need you guys once I move on to the cathedral...!

    ------------------------------

The backside, facing the "Via Triumphalis", has more decorative elements than the front. I'm probably at ~40-50% with modeling now.

This is what I'm working on...

    kVI2zoS.jpg

It's going to be a strip mall with a large parking lot, similar to what you see in many American cities....I've only spent about a day on it, so there's a lot more to go...I'm wanting to make a bunch of different layouts, all with large parking lots so that eventually users will be able to make something like this...

    JsgZwMz.jpg

which is not possible with the current building/commercial sets. I'm going to start a thread for it once I get farther along.

I like this idea! But will it be useable as commercial? Usually these shops are much larger than 32x32m...

    Early gothic windows!

It will sadly have to be ploppable eye candy right now, until someone figures out how to add commercial attributes to landmarks. It will still have workers, which is a good thing, but no services or products will be pumped out. That one I sent a screenshot of will be a 14x14 ploppable I believe.

This side of the tower is basically done now, just missing the clock and a few minor details. I noticed that the gate at the ground is in a very poor condition, that will be hard to reproduce in the texture. I'm confident to finish modeling tomorrow, then the texturing nightmare will begin :D

    Thanks!

I'm gonna cheat a little with minor details though because I don't want to get lost in something that only one in a million people would notice :D For example, the balustrade has two dozen different patterns of gothic art. Some are really complex so I decided to make only two of them:

@Dubai - you can model man!  Great looking stuff - I love the close ups of your tower, it really shows you know your way around a modeling program!  Do you use your highpolys and bake it down to a low poly or are you literally delete faces/polys on your model and re-creating a lower poly version?

I have attempted to do complex baking with NO avail in Blender.  I just do not know how to make my cages, low poly, high polys, and geometry match up well to baking.  Just curious to see if you employed that method after modeling these very quality and high level works?

Thank you a lot! I'm always making three versions of a building:

    - detailed (to render my textures), basically unlimited polys

    - average details, including the basic geometry. That's the mesh for C:S

    - basic outline, no details. That's the LOD for C:S

All of them are mostly independent of each other; I draw them from scratch.

I'm using Blender's baking tool to make the textures for the LOD only. I don't know, the results aren't good enough for the main model for my taste. Could be that I just haven't figured out how to use it properly, no idea. So instead I render the textures for my main mesh in Thea Render. You could call this baking too, as the procedure is essentially the same: Rendering a 3D mesh to get a 2D image. Thea render is great for that in my opinion, I just love the image quality. And it's super easy to use while Blender is rather cryptic if you haven't read half a million tutourials :D

I didn't quite make it today, some of the small details take the longest.. as always. But tomorrow it will be done for sure, and I hope I can get started with texturing!

I also figured out that I have to take some close up shots of the gate, because the condition of the stone is seriously bad and it's hard to make out the geometry from afar...
