No train link to the outside

I'm using a custom Rotterdam map. But there is no train link to the outside. Does that mean that I can't have passenger trains?

You can still set up local passenger rail systems that work just like the metro. 

 

I think you should be able to set up local cargo connections as well but I haven't tried that and I don't know how useful it would be.

I did set up a local passenger rail link, though it's not used. but it could also be because of other factors. It would be fun to have "suburban rail" which is one step up to metro. But so far, the passenger rail link doesn't do anything.

FYI - I did a completely separate 4 rail system on one of my maps that works just fine.

2 are for "local" passenger and industry (1 each)...

.

and the other 2 are for "external" traffic...  (tourists coming & leaving [ 1 rail ] and one for the export/import of manufactured goods [ 1 rail ].)

It takes up a little bit of room, but I packed them (all 4) tight to each other.

aable - Quote -  "I think you should be able to set up local cargo connections as well but I haven't tried that and I don't know how useful it would be."  Your city should already have many different industries...some create "raw materials" and others create products out of it.  Trains will move products back and forth.

I had this experience with a Boston map, but didn't realize how much a problem it would be until I played on it.  I thought I could at least build local rail and connect it to my seaports for shipping, but no trains ever spawned.  I have just finished redoing that same map with connections, and I'll see how that goes.  But I would warn anyone who tries using a map without the proper connections that you'll probably be wasting your time.

Thanks, i was about to start a map from park-life (cavern coast map) it does not have train connection to outside, now i will look for new map.
