I played around with that a little bit too trying to figure out what it does.  Best I could tell is that it has nothing to do with road/vertex snapping but is rather something of an ortho/angle snap.

Someone on Steam Workshop is working on a mod to have a hotkey (L Alt) toggle the snap setting while it is held down. That should make the tool a lot more useful. And yes, it's just for angles; by default the roads snap to perpendicular to other roads.

Thanks so much for the clarification on the snap button! I'm not the brightest bulb in the box so sometimes I don't figure things out right away.

Yeah, I know the numbers were always weird in SC4 as well and there's a mod I used to fix the number of workers in industries. It always bugged me in that game too that there would be something like 14 Sims living in what was graphically represented as a single-family dwelling.

Oh, one thing I didn't think about posting last night that belongs in my list of "love this!" items: bulldozing is free! Zoning is free! If I do end up needing to redesign a road I'm working on at least I get most of the money I just spent on it back. Sure, it isn't all of it but it makes my mistakes a lot less wasteful. :thumb:

I have to write on a board over and over....."this is not SC4". I made a fatal mistake on my first try. So there I am making a road network to plan out my first town. The size was not even close to how large I would start it in SC4. Realizing I didn't put my powerlines in the right place I went to click on the powerlines icon and discovered I ran out of money.....game over. I see what some are saying about taking it slow. I would say bit by bit. But I do hope that eventually we can do some planning farther ahead when constructing our cities. For now it have to be on paper.

Liking this game so far.

I forgot to mention that last night, actually.  One of the things I've always disliked in SC4 is the cost of zoning.  Especially in terms of I-AG.  For the R, C and other I, I could at least mentally write it off as representing the bureaucratic costs of zoning (permits, applications, etc.; all that real-life red tape) and without it it would be too easy to make money without making everything else more expensive.  But in terms of agriculture, WTF?  Realistically, most farms would probably predate modern zoning in the first place; and in terms of game play, exactly how are you supposed to zone an entire large tile as agriculture?  Apparently, you're not supposed to.  I'll typically just moolah cheat the money to offset the zoning cost.

Game is awesome! It is a true city builder. Brings back the same feelings I had when I started out with SC2000 and on. Didn't know if I would ever see the day where that happened again.

I love the planning aspect in particular . If you mess up your infrastructure the game will make you pay for it!

So I couldn't resist and bought the game. Very fun game, I love how easy is it plot roads and flexible you can make them. I highly recommend this game to anyone.
