LAPD shoot, kill man on ground.

My only questions are why it took five L.A. officers to subdue one man; what was wrong with the Taser; and why five shots were fired.  In spite of the 'fog of war' situation, doesn't L.A. train its police in this kind of scenario?

They did tase him but it didn't work. But tasers are not a foolproof way of incapacitating someone. For example, if they don't fully penetrate the persons clothing and thus not come in contact with his flesh, a taser is pretty useless.

I don't know, that CNN video is useless as they blurred out whats really happening. The sounds are like someone was trying to grab the officers gun, but sounds are unreliable in such cases. Just because an officer yells 'drop the gun' doesn't actually mean the person hes yelling it to has a gun.

Well, unless I see some evidence that proves me otherwise, I'm gonna go ahead and believe that the officers were simply doing their job.

Five shots?  Were these from one weapon?  Why are U.S. cops so trigger happy?

Bad firearm training.

No kidding?  I thought it was like no firearm training.

It's also Los Angeles.  Five is probably less than can normally be expected from them.  I hate to use the word desensitization, but as I said, it's LA.  They had the lousy cops before it was cool.

Proper firearm training. You don't fire one bullet and hope it does the job. You keep firing until you know your target is down.

Nonsense.  With an unarmed assailant?  Pleading 'heat of the moment' or 'fog of war' doesn't jibe with a cool, collected law officer.  Sounds more like an excited kid.

Assuming it is true that the man reached for an officer's weapon, then he was anything but unarmed.  As was mentioned during the press surrounding the Michael Brown shooting, one of the surest ways to ensure that a situation escalates to potentially deadly is to attempt to take an officer's sidearm.

There were how many police present?  Seemed like half a dozen in the video.  So far, all of the activities fall into the category of 'allegations' and the victim is unable to reply.  There is no defending the LAPD in this one.  The entire force is acting like they are not employed by the public.

The problem with cases like this one is the fact that nothing is clear. My opinion in this matters are almost always the same, if you are looking for trouble, dont expect to get away with it later. Its always the same debate, the human rights, and the black vs white, and whatever you want to call it, but at the end of the day, you want to sleep tight and safe at home. Different societies, and different rules.. In Britain, policemen dont carry weapons, and it seems to work for them, in America, policemen do carry weapons, and it seems to work in here too.

I dont think the problem is about firing or not, I think its a society issue going on, and that is something you cant change in one day.

You are quite right about differing cultures.  America is an armed camp and is slowly but surely turning into a police state.  The first sign was when they decided to have a tripartite government instead of a parliamentary democracy.  Two warring chambers of legislature will eventually produce what is now the present deadlock.

That also makes it the best excuse for any officer to justify the shooting after the fact. 'He was going for my gun, I was sure of it, so I had to shoot!'. The problem with that is that with the victim dead, there is no way to know for sure if thats what really happened.

Well, that makes forcing police officers to wear body cams at all times vitally important. Its the only way we can be sure that the police officer had a good reason to shoot.
