It doesn't pay to be an atheist, these days.

Vocal atheist blogger hacked to death in Dhaka.

Islam, like Christianity in about the same time frame in its history, is having growing pains.  Unfortunately, there is no central authority in Islam that can exercise any kind of control over this.

What do you suppose would happen if any of the other world religions were to have so much unrest?

The pseudo-Islamic fundamentalist factions cannot be called to heel by any authority and are fomenting a new Crusade?  Somehow, I don't see Pope Francis standing on a balcony yelling "Deus vult".  He is more likely to shed tears and beg the world to settle down.

Meanwhile, now there have been attacks on people who have other beliefs.  Daesh has proclaimed ambitions to attack India.  Will Hinduism resist?  What about the Sikhs, who are all about charity and peace?  I think there may be a general clash in the Hind which may well put paid to rogue states such as Pakistan.  Let everyone remember that both Pakistan and India are members of the nuclear club.  With all this extremism in the name of the Prophet, I think Islam is in grave danger of going the way of the cult of Ahura Mazda.

I never did understand why it should be anyone's business what someone else believes.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I don't know about religion. sure, it's easy to blame every war ever for it. Well, apart from those we blame on politics. But, if we didn't have religion, I guarantee we'd find something else to fight over instead. It's just human nature.

Such a large group of self-identified Muslims are horrible these days. You are right, it does remind me of the Inquisition. However, the majority of civilization is against violent religious extremism so it is more possible to stop. However, certain politicians just want to score talking points instead of deal with real issues. The inquisition was a long time ago and we should not allow anything like it to happen again. Depending on what our next president does, it will either become widely apparent that civilization is on the brink of collapse or our civilization will finally start improving.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Right on!  Beliefs are personal, and while one may expound upon them, one has no business nor right to try to impose them on anyone else.  This will upset some people, but I believe missionaries are strictly evil.
