RHW Bridges

Greetings,

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question but  I couldn't get the NAM support link to work.  I am having a difficult time accessing the RHW S-style bridges.  I have them in my plug ins and selected them at the install.  The NAM manual mentions a Maxis Highway Bridge menu.  Is this separate from the menu that automatically pops up when you stretch RHW across a body of water?  I have stretched long lengths of highway at various heights and I can't seem to get access to these new bridges.  If anyone can help me out I would be very appreciative.

Thanks!

Johnny

There's two ways to get RHW bridges: with the RHW tool, and with the original Highway tool.  You should see RHW bridges in both menus (might have to scroll down to see all of them).

Also make sure you haven't opted out of anything you're looking for in the NAM installer.

    Thanks Indiana,

I stretched some of the old maxis highway across a body of water and I did see the new bridges for 6 - 10 S show up in the menu.  Isn't it wierd that these aren't showing up when I use RHW in the same way?  Anybody else have this same issue?

As far as I know, the reason the bridges are under the regular MHW highway tool is because some of the RHW bridges must be 2 tiles wide. If you used the regular RHW tool you'd only get a 1-tile wide bridge, and you can't put bridges directly next to each other so you couldn't patch together a 2-tile bridge with the RHW tool. Since the MHW tool is a 2-tile network, it worked for the bridges.

Correct, Mushy. Just like any override network (including the RHW) is a work-around that allows us to build more networks types without technically making new networks, this bridge building method is a work-around to make two-tile network bridges for what is technically a single-tile network. As Mushy said, you can't build two bridges side by side, so you have to use other methods to bridge these gaps.

DBE methods (Diagonal/Draggable Bridge Enabler) could theoretically make a bridge of infinite width, perhaps even a bridge that is four tiles in width (double 10S), no gaps at all. Or maybe 5-6 tiles wide if you wanna have a gap between the two halves and still be held up by the same bridge tower.

We'd then have to convert the DBE from being a diagonally focused system, and also destroy the functional fixation of conventional bridgework, not to mention create new bridge pieces for such a thing, like terminator pieces, bridge pillar pieces, pillarless sections, perhaps even T21 a bridge tower to mimic the look of a suspension, arch, cable-stayed, or cantilever bridge. In a roundabout way, we'd might have to start making puzzle pieces again.

That'd also mean that we'd be able to have a variable height bridge, a bridge that changes its height across the entire bridge, or even across just one part of the bridge.

That'd also mean that we'd be able to have a variable direction bridge, one that changes its absolute direction, so yeah, curved bridges of a theoretical maximum width of 4-6 and it's not even a straight line or even at the same altitude.

Thanks for the input.  This makes lots of sense.  I was just happy to see the 6 - 10 RHW bridges finally appear in the menu no matter what method.  And, I am relieved I wont have to re-install the NAM...... again.

    Cheers!
