NAM won't install

So I tried downloading NAM and it keeps saying to update my game, when I do update it constantly shows a pop up message saying Old File not found and I click ok about 5 times till it's complete. I go back to the installer and it tells me to update my game, is there a work around for this?

There is no way around installing the EP1 update, this is mandatory due to bugs with the vanilla version of SC4 that cause problems with the NAM.

 

If the installer is not finding the correct files to update then you might try one of the other region versions of the update, very often the one you think you need it not correct because the disc you got may not be originally from the country of purchase. In short you can try them all to see if one works correctly.

 

This should only be required with CD versions of the game, downloaded versions should already be up-to-date with patches. Also it's worth pointing out that you can't install the EP1 update, and hence also the NAM, unless you have a legal registered copy of the game.

If you are running with a version from CD, you need the correct version of EP1 from here.  It doesn't matter where the game was purchased any longer because the two CD versions seem to have "leaked" to wrong venues.  Look at your disk and seek the file with SKU in the file name.  If you have SKU1 you need the north American patch.  And other, you need the international patch.

 

If you got your disks second hand, and they won't patch, there is a chance that the executable has already been patched illegally.  If this is the case, the check sum is wrong, and neither patch will take.  This is also true for illegal versions obtained on bit torrents.

 

If you have a recent version from an authorized vendor via download, then no patches are needed.

None of the links worked, I brought the game from the store, It gives me the same pop up message

At the moment, I can't find my disks, which I haven't used since I got the digital download.  However, you can find out which game you have loaded.  First of all, do you have SimCity 4, or SimCity 4 Deluxe?

 

Next, use windows explorer to locate the file SimCity 4.exe on your hard disk, and when you have it, right click on it, open the properties tab, and look at the version.  If you will report that version, we'll go from there.

Without the patch (and the NAM) SC4 is very broken and worse still a bit limited, if you have a proper disk version then I guess you have two options at this point:

 

1 - Try to return the game to the store, I can't understand why a retail copy would be "illegally patched", for starters disks are write once so it's not like you can change anything. If they have been modified they are not original disks.

 

2 - Speak to EA/Origin Customer services, some users have reported that when SC4 doesn't run off the CD, EA will give you a free Origin (fully patched) version if you can provide proof of purchase. It's worth a shot if you don't mind having Origin installed.
