How to change default mappings for some items?

Hello Guysn'gals!

- Is it possible to change the location where SimCity4 normally would read/write? The default for this is in your 'Documents' folder and I thought it would be fun to do a stunt with a fresh Windows installation but tell the installation to put the 'User' folder on drive D. That actually solved my problems with SimCity4 but arose a few more obscure I didn't think of. So I decided to keep 'Users' on C like everybody else. Hence the question, where can I change where SC4 saves and look for plugins and extras?

Hi there,

Sure, this can be achieved through the -UserDir command.

1. If you've got data you'd like to keep, first copy / move your existing SimCity 4 folder to the new location on D:\ drive. Otherwise you can just leave it and a new structure will be created upon next starting the game. There may be a slight pause while the game does this.
2. Open your game's shortcut and go to the Target box.
3. After the end quotation mark, add a space then enter:

-UserDir:"x:\<path>\"  (Change x to your drive letter, and <path> to the location of the new SimCity 4 folder).

Example:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -UserDir:"D:\SimCity 4\"

The backslash at the end (\) is important, as this tells the game to look directly inside the folder. And remember to start the game using this shortcut each time, otherwise it'll load the default location again. :)

    - Thanks! I actually tried that method first too, but didn't get it to work with plugins. So I skipped that one only to try it again now when you too suggested it. And look, now it works! Me happy! :thumb:
