Downloading a Map

Hi! I'm starting to get used to finding the right sets for my game, and was wondering about downloading the maps that we have on this site. I recently got the largest new map, but when I opened it up in my game, it's a blank/plain map with no landscape.

How do you get the region made with the landscape, or do you have to do it from scratch once you download the maps from here?

Thanks!

Installing a Map Created by:
SC4Terraformer
SC4Mapper

For SC4M files, you'll need to use Terraformer or Mapper, which are both available on the SC4Devotion LEX.

For greyscale maps, the game has an in-built renderer. Here's the basic process:

  • Create a new folder in "Documents\SimCity 4\Regions". The folder name will be the region's name.
  • Paste the greyscale JPG into here, along with the Config.bmp file.
  • Start the game and open the region.
  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R and import the image to be rendered (this may take several minutes).

Yes.  When you unpack the download into some convenient area, desktop for example, you will find some files.

If you find a *.SC4M file this is a Terraformer/Mapper type.

If you don't find that, then you should find a config.bmp and a gray-scale which can be any of *.jpg, *.png, or *.bmp but most likely the first of these.  This is game renderable as described above.

Thank you! I've tried the rendering, but it's not working, so will try again.

When I went to download the mapper file, the program was locked.

If you are having a specific problem, please quote the URL of the file, and I'll have a look at it.

I don't know what URL you were going to but here is the link to download the Mapper: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2880

You will need an account on the LEX in order to download it. (not the same as your SC4 Devotion account)
