Hello all,

long story short, i haven't played the game in ages and now im having another go at it but i can't seem to avoid my cities from dieing off because of retarded traffic.

This was the reason i put away this game in the first place and thought that they might have fixed this issue but i guess hats not the case, they were too busy releasing useless dlcs ..

So, i need help with traffic, i tried everything i could think of but nothing seems to help, at some point my whole city just stops and starts dieing because emergency services can't get to their destinations anymore ...

Any ideas, suggestions, tip and tricks, mods that i could try? Or is death of cities inevitable?

If its impossible then ill put away this game for good and curse myself from buying it in the first place.

The game is fun despite its long list of shortcomings, bad game mechanics and bugs but i can't spend hours working on a city and then having to start over again and again because of this issue ...

Get the awesome mod by Xoxide called udon it might help.
The idea with this is 4 lifted highways with one big interchange in the middle that might help people off the streets and onto the highway.

I already have udon and been trying to use the one way streets to alleviate traffic problems but to no avail.

Haven't tried to build large interchanges because they take up too much space and space is critical here since city tiles are so tiny.

If you post pictures of the city where the traffic is the problem makes more easy to help you

and to optimize space using the udon, make the highways above the normal streets, like i made i my city.

In my city the sims always use the udon highway to exit from the city or go to the industrial part of the city, leaving the normal streets free.

Its gonna be difficult to provide screens since i dont have an internet connection on my laptop (i travel a lot). Im typing from my phone currently.

I can see that your city works fine so there might be a way but it seems to me to be a hassle to make that.

Plus i dont see megatowers, i bet that if you plop a couple of them there it would start to clog up with traffic.

Yes, i use megatowers, i find that for a large city with heavy specialization using just the normal residential buildings dont seem to be enough, my rci demand skyrockets for residents.

There just ain't enough room ...

Also what you have there in your city is nice when it comes to a flat city tile, how about a city with hills, mountains and different elevations?

And one last thing, a clarification, I dont have problems with entrances and exits to the city itself since im using a mod that allows me to build regional roads and avenues which i use to create new connections to my city thus splitting the incoming and outgoing traffic which seems to help with congestion.

I have problems inside the city . At first it was just in the mornings and evenings when people would go to work and return from it respectively but as my city grew it reached a point where it all stopped. There were just too many cars coming out of those 3 megatowers i have and my streets couldn't handle them all despite having a different mass transit options available to my citizens

It sounds like you have too long of roads in your city and.or zoning on the wrong side of the roads.  Remember, one hd building can have over 700 sims leaving it at once.

Try not to zone on avenues.  You don't want traffic waiting to make turns into buildings on your main roads.

Zone only one side of a street.  Traffic from both sides of a street can clog up fast.  remember a hd building on both sides of the street can have 1,400 sims leaving/entering at once.

Try zoning commerce and residential together.  a 3R to 1C is a good mix.  This way sims will walk to work/shop.  This will free up your roads for cars.

again, remember to building nothing on your main avenues.  treat them like a freeway with nothing on them at all.  You don't want people to turning into buildings, especially a left turn where they may have to wait forever.

Try to transfer pictures over for viewing.  it will make things much simpler than guessing what you need.

You need to have fast, clear ways around and through your city.  Avenues that cross and circle the city are a good idea.  Do not intersect those avenues too often, but I'm finding that low density streets are your friend when intersecting avenues because they are only a stop sign and will not clog up the avenue the way a light will, since the lights on medium and high density streets/other avenues will delay them for a set period of time and really cause a noticeable queue.  A frontage road off an avenue is your best friend for zoning.  And yes, preferably on only one side, but sometimes it's good to break up the monotony and build on both sides, just be smart about it - break it up with parks, or build the the city blocks a little small so that the buildings cannot expand to maximum density.

Once you reach your high density buildings, you can downgrade some of the streets back to low density to take advantage of the stop signs.

Also, take advantage of tunnels and elevated roads / rail.  If you have rail in your city, have more than one stop, and have the rail cross the city if you can.  Gets people off the road.  A streetcar stop near your high wealth neighborhood will get a lot of use, since they won't take buses unless they absolutely have to.  High wealth will take streetcars, afaik.
