I lost my SC4 disks so i had to download from Amazon.  I installed on my new PC running Windows 8 and everything seemed fine in.  Im running into problems with the gameplay in that the buildings and rows appear to be glitching very badly.  I've seen a few posts on this but im not sure if im doing it correctly.  I changed the game to run in several different versions of Windows in compatibility mode and i get the same issue every time.

Hi there

Could you please post a screenshot of the issue? That might help us with possible suggestions.

Just upload to an image host (e.g. imgur), and use the image_icon.png icon to embed into your post.

And add a description of your machine in some detail including the GPU.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Do you have an Intel integrated graphics chip? If so, SC4 will not work properly on Windows 8.1. You'll need to get another graphics card to run the game on; the intel integrated graphics cards don't work unless you're using a driver version that was released prior to Windows 8.1, and if you're on Windows 7 or 8.0. (8, not 8.1)

....or just play the game in software rendering mode. You'll loose the ability to use HD mods, but atleast you can play the game.

If you can capture the image at all, convert it to JPG.

I'm also running Win 8.1. Graphic card : intel hd graphics 4000 + nvidia geforce 820m. Therefore, I have the same problems. My attempts in adjusting the Graphics Rules.sgr and Video Cards.sgr yielded zero success. Since I don't use any HD mods, changing to software mode is the easiest solution.

Actually, your best option would be an upgrade to Windows 7 if you can find it.

Don't hold out any hope at all for Threshold (Windows 9).

I already did that. Still doesn't work.

Well, I see no problem playing the game in software mode anyway.
