Old player here, back when SC4 was hot and this site was waaay different looking.  Hi

 

Just bought SC this week and have been getting used to it, but in many ways it's like riding a bike.  You still remember!  Although the tedious specialization is a pain, it really does pay.  I got a city to over 450k pop and 15 million simoleons before I realized I needed to expand my community college.  Too late, though, as the nuclear plant had a meltdown.  Oops!!  I now have about a quarter of the city that is almost useless.  Almost...  Fortunately I had that ton of money plus another city in the region for a little loan.  Rebuilt that sucker and it's pretty spiffy, coming back high density high wealth, slowly...

 

Not wild about some of the changes, and yeah, there are still some bugs, but I'm still having fun.  I actually am in a multiplayer region and this guy abandoned... he has Cities of Tomorrow, I think, because I can't claim his cities.  Anyone able to claim them and come play?

I'm not doing too badly for playing with a vanilla city.  Made an Arcology and found out just how useless that is, ha.  Had two nuclear meltdowns and still have one city that's kicking butt with over 20M simoleons due to specialization and trade, the other is back on its feet.  At least maybe go in and clear the two other connected cities for me?

Three abandoned cities, I only care about two.  One is mostly empty, just roads mainly, a big circle in it and not much else.  I think he just moved on.  One is heavily populated, Kingfisher cliffs.  Maybe he went bankrupt and wouldn't ask me for money, haha.  He has a third one that is abandoned, it might be connected to mine by rail but it may not be.  I don't care about that one so much.  You can bulldoze the whole thing.

Eight years of playing World of Warcraft with only minimal mods and listening to people say "Aw, with this last patch my addons are all broken - I can't play without them!" many times every year have shown me that there's nothing wrong with minimal.  Mods are good, but your game play doesn't have to depend on them to enjoy this game.

I picked up another game in North America East 4, and am not doing too badly with that.  It started a little haphazardly but I'm saving up so I can demolish a bit

 

Anyhow, I just checked and to be clear, for anyone who may want to join:

 

There are four abandoned cities in Palma, on South America. Three of them are connected to me in some way:  Kingfisher Cliffs, Toucan Valley, and Anaconda Bay although Anaconda Bay is only connected by rail, or so it seems, as they are sending students to my main city, Viella Vista.    Sirenia was my dirty mining city although I might change that.

 

I've done the heavy lifting on solar and electronics as a specialty.  And if you really like nuclear power, you can get the Gen II reactor.  Although, ya know, I'm not playing with that shiz again.  The first time was my fault, the second was a meteor shower in Sirenia.  A good solar farm takes up almost the same space anyway, so I said fuggit!  Yeah, there are things I can do to redesign and I probably will once I get even more cash.  But yeah... the electronics life is good, it really pays.

Haha... yeah.  So on North America East 4, in Deltoids, my closest neighbor apparently abandoned the city.  I can tell right now what I couldn't claim it if I wanted to.  This is what I get for being cheap... Thatcher Overlook is available if anyone wants to play!

I just passed my first million simoleons in Naimara, woohoo.  (the city in Deltoids)  When I get to about 5 or 6 I think I will wipe it and start again.  It is not a sandbox city, because I did want the challenge.  Solar work is done again, not doing the nuke work.  One thing I'm finding is that trade is really, really profitable.  The trade hq, trade depot and trade port are all must-have items for a wealthy city.

I think you might find it refreshing  To be sure, I have only started looking at what mods are out there.  I see that you've made quite a few.  Thanks for your contributions and service!  

 

Yeah, there are some things that I know I'd like... one way roads for sure, to make offramps.  Even if you don't like one way roads, Maxis should have made some kind of offramp or the jughandle intersections that used to be there.

Making mods is what I do and I love doing it.

 

Yep uDoN is absolutely a necessity when playing offline.
