Somebody was working on slip lanes quite a while back, but they couldn't get them in-game without it crashing, IIRC.  I think the project was abandoned.  Perhaps one of the knowledgeable people here can confirm or deny that.  4.gif

I would like to see in the new NAM is a intersection consisting of a diaganle street or road meeting with a horizontal and a vertical. My homtown of Kenosha, Wisconsin hass a few of those intersections in residential areas and I think that they are cool to have represented in SC4 and NAM.

Of course there are ways to make these already, but it's not as smooth as it could be.  I'd like to see a one-way-road split/merge.  as in two one-way-roads side-by-side split or merge very neatly, not with an intersection.  Of course, this would go from an Avenue to one-way roads, then the split, then it could be brought back to an avenue with two frontage roads.  It would also be easy to widen a bridge by building one-way bridges on the sides of an avenue bridge.  Below is what would be two lots- one for each direction, and there would be any number for all the different configurations (left merging, on and off merging, splitting, etc).  But it would essentially put out or accept two same-direction one-way-roads.

It would look much better than the current intersection (with a stoplight!) that exists now.

Thanks for the reply Tarkus, that is great news! I'm looking forward to TLA-7 & TLR-3. Will they be released with the next NAM (which I'm hoping will be released over the summer 4.gif) I really appreciate the work you and the rest of the team are doing :-). As for the textures, I'm considering looking over ways that I can help make creative content for the game in the future. I'm not exactly great with Photo shop, but I'm definitely interested in designing - so I will definitely consider it. If you ever need a beta tester for TLA-7, TLR-3 or other NAM projects feel free to PM me here :-).

Also, will we be able to use TLA-7 to make three lane one-ways? Sort of like how we can use the rural hwy to make two lane one way hwys (by deleting the other hwy strip)?

Update: Actually I was just looking for a tutorial on texturing and all I could find was one that talked about using gmax to texture walls. You can use photo shop to texture roads, right?

could somebody make a texture override for orthoganol-diagonal avenue intersections that looks like those in SC3? The side of the intersection with an acute angle has a sort of rounded right turn lane. will post a pic when one is found.

Yay page 40

More highway interchanges would also be nice:

Drawings are terrible, but you get the idea.  The different semi-cloverleafs currently on NAM are...inefficient.  They don't work too well.

Those highway interchanges would rock! if i was more of a highway man though i could give more!

i really like to see those interchanges in SC4. especially the first one and the fourth one..

i also like to see a ground highway ramp with a one-way road. like the elevated one.

do you know which ramp i'm talking about??

I have a 2 proposals for the new NAM.

1) If we could have a maybe optional (when you select the interchage a popup comes up) traffic light at an expressway exit. I think it would be benificial to traffic. Instead of the people figuring out on their own who will go the traffic light will decide.

2)My other idea was having an E-ZPass booth.

GLR in avenue - in progress

Rack Rail System pieces - huh?

Larger One-ways - in progress

More ramp varieties...depends on if someone will BAT and mod them.

Street puzzle pieces - again huh? there are already streets in the game. and there are puzzle pieces for diagonals already in the NAM

underground rail stations...already in the NAM

You should make aging roads, like they get grey and then eventually re-paved to black and continues.

hawkpride147:  I think what simcity lover meant was 'Street Over Street / Road / Avenue / 1-Way Road / Ground Highway / GLR / On-Slope (and the respective diagonals)'.

Hi, my ideas are...

-Multi-Lanes Highway Ramps

-Ramps for avenues

-Interchange for 3 highways "Y"

-Underpass road, avenue, rail, highway for Ground highway

-Ramps for Parallel Highway (ie: Highway ramp to the service road (high speed))

-Inverse HOV Lane on brige and highway

Reversible lanes would be incredibly awesome, but I'd imagine they'd be VERY hard to make. I mean, if it could be automatically set for a certain direction during certain times, that would be so neat.

(Perhaps possible in version 30 of the NAM)

I'm surprised NAM or any other STEX or LEX has decent merging lanes especially when you have an off ramp combining with a frontage road or Avenue.

Hi everyone!

I was reading the "Requesting Highway On/Offramp ... " Thread, and I wanted to add something:

In France, we've got highways, looking like avenues (2x2) without a "toll barrier".

And those intercity roads (also serving as belt boulevard) frequently are connected to other roads

with roundabouts. However, it can't be done in SC4...8.gif

Maybe it could be interesting to study if something can be done...

SC4 rulez, but I'm desperate when I see that I can't do what I want with interchanges...

Thank you in advance.

Here's an example of a two way frontage road:

As you can see, it requires you to know what you're doing, works horribly if there's a ton of traffic, but it looks cool and is helpful if you live on the frontage road.quote>

I dunno. Using two-way Roads and RHW and that exit I mentioned...It would be AWESOME!

Oh yes, now I need to post a way to get back ON the highway.

Well I've got a request. 2.gif

outofcityinterchange.jpg

I love those little one way to avenue connectors, on the avenue corners. Would it be possible to adapt this to the highways as well? I most frequently use them on highway interchanges such as this one, and it would be wonderful if I didn't have to switch highway to avenue for such a small stretch.

Thanks, NAM Team!

I have a few ideas/requests I think are missing in sc4:

How about grey avenues/roads? just seems more realistic, because most roads turn grey after a few years anyway.

or how about roads crossing without a traffic light?

maybe just like a lot you can plop over the intersection that will remove the traffic light, these do exist in the real world, there are a lot around where I live.

another thought of mine was avenues without the divider, these avenues exist everywhere in cities, for E.G. Atlanta, Ga or Washington DC:

untitled1.jpg

also I think it would be a good idea to raise the maximum for streets to around 250, because trying to do realistic suburbs is virtually impossible without a completely high congestion traffic system in the suburbs.

I am very excited about this NAm release

Thanks for all the hard work4.gif

oh yeah, anther request would be to have ploppable interchanges with the rural highway, instead of only being able to use streets as on and off ramps.

Preyfr60:  You may want to check into the Rural Highway (RHW) mod for those highways.  And as far as interchanges go, at least for the RHW, there will be a lot of variety soon.2.gif

Gn_leugim:  That is doable.  The only real drawback is that the piece would pretty much be invisible without some sort of park or something on top.  So far, all attempts to get these various underground setups to show up in the underground view have resulted in the game crashing.  I've messed around a little myself, to no luck whatsoever.  If EA/Maxis didn't hide/hardcode a bunch of stuff with the Subway network implementation, we might have a little bit better luck.

LivingInThePast:  Well, I'm hoping that the RHW Modular Interchange System (MIS) will take care of that to some degree.

beebs:  Well, it would be possible.  It would take a few RUL overrides modding-wise, but it looks to me like those overrides wouldn't be too difficult.  The main trick is having someone do a model for it.

dosomthin90210:  Well, to answer your questions, the gray roads could be done.  The modding aspect wouldn't be terribly difficult, but someone would have to do the textures.  As far as Roads crossing without traffic lights, right now you pretty much have the choice of all Road-Road crossings having traffic lights, or none of them having traffic lights, unfortunately--rather unrealistic.  Things are a little finicky with traffic lights and the SC4Path stop points as well.  At least in a draggable context, that would be the case.  With puzzle pieces, things might be a little bit more flexible.

As far as Avenues without dividers, that is possible--just need to figure out an override that can be used so it won't replace anything.  If you're looking for some that have center turn lanes as well, I'd look into the TLA Project (see my sig).

And finally, with the RHW, there are some solutions to the whole no-interchange issue coming very soon.  I've actually got a Modular Interchange System (MIS) almost ready for the RHW, which will essentially allow you to design your own custom interchanges. HabLeUrG has also been working up some plop-and-go ones.

Hope that answers your questions. 2.gif

Orlandoedwin640:  Well, if you're looking for wider Avenues and Highways, again, see the TLA (Turning Lane Avenues) and RHW projects, which will be part of the new Network Widening Mod (NWM).  See the development thread links in my sig.

Tarkus: The RHWMIS does look cool, but there needs to be the proper yields and pathing on the Road to make it work. A puzzle piece, perhaps? Does the Roadgeek Union make Yield sign props?

Gotcha.. if I knew how, I'd love to make a try at it. Unfortunately, the only thing I can make is the little building you see at the end of the BAT Essentials tutorial, in the Omnibus. 15.gif

Ah, I'll keep hoping. 2.gif
