A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered or overdone to perform a very simple task in a very complicated fashion, usually including a chain reaction. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970). Lots of creativity and perfection is necessary while making this machine. Maybe it's my lack of Japanese, but I don't see anything here to do with Pythagoras, his famous theory or his musical scale.

I've been living here for years now and we see this show occasionally with our two very small children, and I'm still not sure why it has this name.  The rest of the show is showing different machines (ie at a factory), making silly animals out of office supplies (different from what you're imagining, I guarantee), doing impossible things by taking pictures to fake it, stuff like that.  Almost everything is set to music.

 

Also, they have the 15-minute Pythagoras Switch on Saturday and Monday and minis during the weekdays that are only 5 minutes.  I know they change the schedule in April, but I can't remember if they change the schedule after summer vacation and at the New Year.
